1969 Front Grille Re-assembly Help Needed.

Has anybody recently installed the grille back into a 69?
I took it apart over 5 years ago and could use some tips on how it all goes back together.
I have the AIM but can't seem to figure out where the brackets that hold both the passengers and drivers side grille in place mount on the top.
I know they mount through the lower valance in a couple of spots but do they connect to headlights brackets on the top some where?
Any pics or tips sure would help.

The outside bracket for each grill has a self tapping style metal hex headed screw that passes through the bracket and goes into the edge of the headlight housing. (the headlight houseing is the large (aluminum ??) u -shaped piece that the headlight resides in.
The hole is small, if you run your finger along the very end of th eheadlight housing you will find it (its tight in there if you have the bumper extension pieces in )

Hope that helps.
Nick

Is it the same for the center brackets on both of the outside grille's?
Also should I have the front bumper first?

The center grill bracket has 2 screws that come up through the valance panel and then a single bolt that screws in from within the headlight opening outward. The center grill is held on by 4 screws, 2 per side that screw into U-Nuts on the center brackets.

It woudl be easier if the front bumper is on before the grills are put in.

Anyone have any close-up pics of the front grilles on a 69, or maybe pics of hot the brackets are installed before the grille pieces go in?

I am restoring the front end of my 69, and all I need it the chrome molding and the brackets... but it just doesnt seem to line up the way im looking at it... just doesnt looks right

The center two brackets need to go on first. They have 4 bolts that go through the body to hold most of the stuff, they hide under the vertical chrome pieces. Then a self taping screw goes through the side at the top of each of the them into the headlight area. Mine were rusted solid so i cut them as you can see in the closeup.

Then the blinker brackets can go on. Your blinker will go through and hold them together and you have weird nuts for the back of the blinker.

Punisher, Great pic of the grill set up, I am working on putting one in my 69 coupe that I did not remove, making it more fun...
what do the tabs on the side grills mount to that are located near (top & bottom) the turn signal lenses? Mine just are floating there and I can't see where they would mount to... thanks

IIRC, the 69 does not have anything for those tabs to bolt to. They may have been used in 68, so the grills are the same but some of the brackets were different between the two. (not sure but that could be one of those unique 68 only things)

PonyUp: 68 and 69 grill mounting brackets are completely different. The 69 set up can be used on 68s, but is not stock.

Purchase the 68 assembly instruction manual (AIM) and take a look at the factory installation of the original brackets and grilles.
