333882 heads,,should they be on my 350

hi,
just took the valve covers off and noticed i have 333882 heads on my 350,
looking in david vizards book it states these were used on 1970 to 1976 400 engines,
mines a 77 350,
also, when i removed the intake manifold the engine looks red inside, all the others i've stripped were dark grey/blackish,
any ideas,
thanks,
neil

just found that they were used on 70 to 80 350 and 400 engines , got this from the nastyz28 site,
intake 1.94 exhaust 1.5 76cc head,

sounds like smog heads.. perfectly fine if you have a driver/boulevard cruiser. if you want performance.. get some 64cc 2.02 heads

if you do the port and pocket work and don't have to pay for labor they are OK, you'll just have $ in basic valve job, have 3 sets to do now :hurray:

L82 333882 heads had 2.02/1.60 valves, guideplates, 76cc chambers, 151cc intake runners.

L48 333882 heads had the smaller intake valves, no guideplates.

These are "smog" heads and are prone to cracking because of the thin area between the two paths for the exhaust crossover AND because of this they run hotter than heads without the exhaust crossover.

Just my .02........their crap. Get a good set from an aftermarket supplier and use the 882's for boat anchors. There are MUCH better out there. Again, just my .02 :flag

I concur the Chevy Small Block Interchange Manual states that these heads are prone to cracking as KenSny stated in his reply. It also said that if you have these heads on your engine, get rid of them.

probably epoxy paint , to help oil drain back in to oil pan.
i do it after i have debird the inside, it's one of the extra things to do in a build
