Lars' carb and dist. service

is first class!I just got my carb and dist. rebuilt by Lars and my '72 LS5 coupe runs better than ever.Smooth responsive power that keeps pulling strong. His service was quick and inexpensive.I got my Q-jet rebuilt as well as recurving and rebuilding my distibutor. Not only was Lars very friendly and informative but when I developed a problem with my carb after the rebuild(particle stuck in jet)he sent me a loaner carb immediately and took mine back apart NO CHARGE!What service,to say I am very happy would be an understatement. Thanks again Lars and the Corvette Forum for being there to help us fellow Vette owners. John W.

Lars rebuilt my q-jet too. To say throttle response is CRISP is an understatement. No bog or hesitation and smooth performance!

Folks...remember this. If you ever visit the state of Colorado, you must deliver a keg to Lars' home. And if Lars ever visits your corner of the country, you must feed him many beers and much BBQ. Amazing as it seems, he is but one man who does these many things for us (in his spare time no less)

:iagree: He has custom tuned my Demon and rebuilt my distributor to perfection. Very much a pleasure to meet in person as well.

i am interested in haveing my carb redone, and was wondering how much it cost, and how long he had the carb? I am not sure if i should have the distributor recurved, i am putting a mild summit cam in next month when carb comes off? and new 64 cc heads with the 2.02 1.60 valves, much better than stock 78 heads

John (JW714)-
Glad to hear the carb setup ended up working well for you. Amazing how poorly a carb with a blocked off main jet will run...! Good to see it's running right now.

Nice to hear a few others have also had good luck with the carbs I've been setting up. I still have a carb in the works for Drk Grn Met (Bernie) - his original carb had some internal casting imperfections that did not allow me to get the carb running right for him, in spite of a visit out to his house in Orlando. One of our members donated a numbers-matching 1980 carb, and I just finished rebuilding it for Bernie. It's on my workbench and ready for testing right now, so we'll hopefully get Bernie up and running this week.

Fun stuff!

:yesnod:

From the time I sent him both the carb and dist. I think it was less than 2 weeks when I had them back.As far as the dist. goes I would recommend it, with the stock advance springs your timing isn't in by 2500-2800 rpm(36*).JW

Vette people are great, aren't they? Lars, do you rebuild Holley double pumpers?

Yes, I can set up and test the Holley DP carbs, but I do need you to provide the dual feed inlet line with the carb.

Lars . I have a '65 396/425 . It really wants to go at lower rpm , but breaks up at about 5,200 rpm . ? Could you e me for all the details (carb , ignition , compression , cam , timing , etc. , etc. ) that I can give you ? Sounds like you could really help me out here . Where in Co. are you ? My daughter is in Co. Springs @ the Air Force Accad. -- I'm out there 5 or 6 times a year (me -- not the '65) . Thanks , g

A 5200 rpm breakup will usually be an ignition related problem - not a carb problem unless you have a fuel delivery starvation issue at WOT (not uncommon). Most hi-rpm breakups I see are ignition issues.

lars,
i'm in the uk and am amazed at all the positive feedback you get from all the guys here,
i took my q-jet off of my 77 cos it was running real bad,
fitted a new holley 600 vac sec, runs a lot better but would like the q-jet back on,
no one here can touch it,,,,,
i'm visiting friends in texas in a few weeks, if i take it over and they send it to you they could bring it back in july when they come over to see me,
let me know if you could fit me in as i'd love a lars-carb,
neil

Hi Lars,
I am moving to a new house and I came across a big box of Q-jets and parts I was going to mail you. You should hopefully see it next week.

Neil -
I'd be glad to do a setup on your Q-Jet for you. If you're coming to Texas (not quite sure why you would do that to begin with, but that's something we can discuss over a few pints), why don't you just stop on up to Denver: I'll put you up, you can tip a few with the CCC, we'll build your carb, test it on my car, bag it all up and send you on your way with the carb.

But if that won't work, have them send me the carb and I'll get it taken care of for you. If you're going to be here in the States for over a week, I can send you back with your finished carb by using next day air delivery to and from Texas: it only takes me a day to build and test the carb. Drop me an e-mail and we can get this arranged prior to your visit:

Anything you have to donate related to Q-Jets would be of great assistance: I use donated Forum spare parts all the time in the repair of Forum members' carbs. Anything you send will be put to good use saving carburetors for our enthusiasts here on the Forum. I really appreciate the offer!
