another rear spring bolt question

Don't know much...so, bear with me...have a 71 with composite rear leaf. The ends of the TA's where the bolts go through to the spring are looking kinda rusty. Can I just unbolt those bolts and take them out, refinish the end of the TA's, and put the bolts back in with the car sitting on the floor? or are those bolts or leaf under tension as the car sits, and I have to do it some other way?? or worry about having to jack the spring up or something to get the bolts back on?
Thanks for any help.

Yes the bolts are under A LOT OF PRESSURE . The spring needs to be restrained in some way before you take the bolts out. Be careful there is alot of force in that spring.

simply put a jack under the end of spring. Jack the end of the spring up a bit, 1/4 inch is fine. You only need enough to get the tension off of the bolt. Then loosen the bolt. Take the bolt off. Then slowly let the jack down with the spring. To install, do the opposite.

Don't jack the spring directly....place a piece of wood between the spring and the jack....and don't forget to place a clamp on the spring so the jack doesn't slide sideways... :D

Thanks, guys. You're right, AGVI...I would have forgotten the clamp!
