'87 Won its NCRS Top Flight! (pics)

Just returned from the NCRS Regional Meet at Loews Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. It was put on by the Carolinas Chapter and they did a great job....great location for the event at the track. We got to use the NASCAR garages as the "show field" for all the judging. Beautiful weather too. On Thursday they had DEI tours and dinner there. We had dinner at the track at the Speedway Club on Friday night and got entertained by seven NASCAR racers going at it throughout the dinner. Participants were also allowed to do track laps late Friday afternoon with their Corvettes. We entered our '87 for Flight judging for the first time....NCRS just opened it up to the '87-'89's this year. Very pleased to say that we got a Top Flight Award. Great assortment of cars there...very nice folks as well. I must say I have to admire those judges that spend significant time and energy checking the cars to document the originality for the owner and for the history and future of the Corvette hobby. I know NCRS isnt everyones thing and thats good, the sport needs variety....but we had a great time and enjoyed the company of other folks interested in our favorite car. A couple of pics below.

Congratulations! How much effort did you put in to make your 1987 Top Flight? I'm showing mine for the first time at the Wildwood Regionals in late May...

  Congrats on a tough award. I know how critical the judges can be, but it is a thankless job. BTW, I noticed you own the other american glass car, a 1980 Avanti II. I just sold my 1982 Avanti II from my collection and I am having withdrawal. I loved that car because it was so unique and had won every award including the Studebaker/Avanti Nationals. Again, great job on the NCRS Top Flight and I will be eligble in four (4) years with my '93 Ruby.

J3studio....I didnt have too much to do on the '87 to prepare it for Flight judging. Actually, during the 11 years I have had it I kept it very clean and very original. We drove it about 12,000 miles over that period...only on good days. Biggest point deducts were for the tires I put on 8 years ago (Dunlops vs. Goodyears) and the Delco replacement battery. If your '85 is original and in decent shape you should be OK. Clean it well, but NCRS isnt as fanatical as some organizations on clean (ie: a NCCC concours event). Its to be "as it left the factory" clean. Suggest you buy NCRS's newest judging manual for '87-'89's. It is extremely detailed and very helpful. Good luck!
