Got My Aluminum Heads Today!

I finally received my first ever pair of aluminum heads for the big block. They are Pro Topline 320cc R-Port heads. The heads flow 374 @ .700" on the intake and 265 @ .700" on the exhaust. I'm really impressed with the overall quality of the heads. The flow numbers and price made these heads perfect for my build-up. The heads have 2.25/1.88 exhaust valves (which is really all the bigger I want to go with a 4.31 bore size).

I can't even believe how light these heads are. A bare Pro Topline head weighs 30lbs, a bare GM cast iron head weighs 67lbs. I'll be shaving approximately 75lbs off of the front end of the car. I plan on cutting, lengthening and re-welding my Hooker side pipes to work with the raised exhaust ports of these heads.

I have a set of TRW forged 12.5:1 compression pistons coming in pretty soon for my motor too. I'll be purchasing an internally balanced 4340 Eagle crank and aluminum flywheel for the motor next. I'm looking at shifting the motor at 7000-7500RPMs. I have pictures of the heads but for some reason my website with the Corvette Forum won't let me upload and pictures to my account.

Sweeet! Sounds like the vette is getting another horsepower injection. Which reminds me, didn't you buy a Camaro to race?

Brett:
The 'Vette was already pretty quick with the first version of the 468 big block (ran 12.1 @ 118MPH in street trim) I'm hoping that it's going to be a good bit fast with upgraded version. I do have a 1970 Camaro that's setup for drag racing (narrowed Ford 9", ladder bars, 4.56 gears w/ spool, 14" wide rims) it needs some work before it will be ready though. Right now the goal is to get the big block built up again so I have a fast car to drive for summer, then I'm going to start putting money into getting the Camaro ready.

Shane - That's great. I would try them with your existing shortblock.

As far as the pipes go. They just might fit. I had no problems with my .600 raised exhaust ports because of how a V-8 motor is. The .600 raise is if it's sitting on the kitchen table. On the motor it's maybe only lifting maybe .300 inches and an additional .300 inches farther outboard. Which is nothing:)

 I'm running Protopline 180cc in my SB. Flow numbers comparable to AFR 190's. Only problem I've had with that company is customer service & communication. Being that they are in Australia, they were difficult to communicate with. No other complaints. Only thing I had to do was open the pushrod port a bit cause I run 1.6 rockers on the exhaust.
Good Luck with your build
Eddie
