Custom Center consoles? Got Pics?

Hey all, After looking at my center console I have decided (instead of going with an OEM/Aftermarket piece) to possibly fabricate my own or see what's out there that can be modified to set me apart from the pack. I have heard of people modding C5 consoles to fit in a C3 (Gotta love rumors with no links  ) And was wondering.. Who here has a custom console and I would like to see pics to get some ideas. This project will be a little while off but I figure I could start getting ideas now and maybe come up with a game plan so when I start the custom projects I will be good and prepared.

THANKS! :lurk:

I am going to do the same thing, console storage for cd's etc would be nice. I'll make it out of wood, cover it with padded black vinyl. I've done the same with my rear speakers (see picture).

It sits tightly right on the wheel wells, makes a nice mount for the fire extinguisher, and the t-tops still fit underneath.

Avette, Thanks but they are pretty much all dress up kits for the existing console I really think a custom console would be better for my application.

What colour is your car? Maybe paint your existing console to match. :D

The color is a BADLY painted maroon. But I will be changing the color this fall (hopefully) The problem is that my center console is pretty beat with some random holes in it to make the sides fit properly and feed into the correct holes. I can rebuild the console and MAKE it work but if I am going to go through all that trouble I am thinking of just building a nice custom setup to set it apart. I am not looking for extravagant setups like you see in some of these show cars, just a cool looking, functional setup.

I have this in my car:

I mounted an XM receiver and MP3 player remote inside of it. I thought about making my own, but this was just too easy to pass up. http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.54.1605

I can email some pictures of it in my car if you want :)

Will do. What I've got in mind will should be easy to build and hold maybe a dozen cds and have a hinged padded/buttoned top. By the way, if you're handy, custom is really the way to go here. My speaker enclosure was simple to make (took about 2 hours) and cost me practically nothing. All I had to buy was the padded vinyl, and I got enough of that for 25 bucks to make mine and 2 more like it!

I've been working on this for a while trying to figure what i liked best. This pic is of the test one i made i'm working on another one. I don't like the shift boot i used so i'm putting a different one.
Its 1/4" plexiglass and i painted the bottom, it looks better in person then in the pic.

Good ideas here so far thanks!! I am going to be shipping my shifter out to get it modified as it is a ZF6 and the shifter sits too far to the left for it to fit properly in my console (However the existing console is from an auto) so I plan on building the setup from my "new" shifter after I send it out (won't be till around fall so I can at least drive it for the summer)

Hence why I am starting to get ideas now. Once I get the few things done that NEED to get done this summer while I am driving it. The fun part of making it "different" begins in the cars down time :D
