What is with the wiper door?

The wiper door on my 70 goes up automatically when the car starts but will not go down unless you push it down several minutes after you shut off the car. Anybody have any easy fixes?

First, check your switch under the steering column to verify it's in the right position (closed: pushed-in). If it is, you most likely have either a hose leak or a bad actuator valve (inside rear of passenger fender).

Another thing to check is the check valve first out from the carb.

My 69 does the same thing, If you figure it out I would love to here the answer, I will do the same.

This is a classic symptom on the wiper selonoid that is dirty. Here is a procedure to fix it since you cannot find them (New) anymore. This works great.

My wiper door opens and closes fine, but the wipers do not come up. Found a loose blue wire near the wiper motor, but have not yet figured out where the heck it goes. :(

There is a solenoid mounted on the back of the tachometer. There is a two wire electrical connector going to it and two vacuum hoses. The vacuum hose that comes from the override switch under the dash needs to go on the end with the plastic fitting (on the side nipple), the other hose goes on the brass nipple. If the hoses are backwards, the door will open with the wiper switch off, and close with the switch on.

Speedracer,
any of these fellas could be right, and probably are, but I've been working on Corvettes for about 3 months and am feeling pretty salty if you know what I mean. Anyway, here's my 2 cents. I had the same problem when I picked up my 71 back in March, very frustrating and embarassing to drive. The vacuum system provides many opportunities for problems, one of the things it could be is a leak in the vacuum system somewhere. I had a hissing leak coming from the right side of the car under the windshield wiper door and wasn't smart enough to start there. I started with the actuator relay which was a pain to get out only to figure out that wasn't the problem. I then took apart the windshield wiper door and was able to get to the Wiper Door Vacuum Switch on the Firewall. It was dry rotted and not holding the vacuum. $49.00 fo the part and $8.00 in shipping. Again, this was my problem, you may have a different problem. I also spent $12.00 for a troubleshooting guide and had the problem solved in one day.
Go Speedracer, go Speedracer, go Speedracer, GO!
hope this helps,
while I got you on the line, how do I post pictures? I downloaded them to photobucket, but now what?

You have to upload your pic(s) to a location on the internet and then in
your post, click on the "Insert Image" button (directly below the font "size" box) and then place the whole address to the pics after the open image tag. Then click the "Insert Image" button again to add the close image tag.

It should end up looking something like this.

Note that the image tags (img) are mis-spelled (image) so they will show up here and not actually try and display a picture.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!
