Who's had their leaky rear seals replaced?
I had my 99 at the shop today for state inspection..It looks like the left rear seal has a slight leak...Has anyone had this repaired out of warranty? I'm wondering what it will cost me since the car is out of warranty.

Sorry, I've had mine done 3 times. Left side, but am not sure on cost. All 3 under warranty.
Best luck, Decon |
My 04, with about 500 miles on it, is leaking on the right side, slings grease on the inside of the wheel....left side rear tire leaks about 2# a week and passanger side window won't go all the way up unless you push out on then top of the glass......GM quality.....

Had mine done twice under an extended warranty but I believe the bill would have come to about $700 big ones. Not cheap by any means.

I had the left rear seal replaced on my 99 which was out of warranty and it cost me $200 which was mostly labor.

You might want to try changing the fluid to Red Line. There is something in it (esthers?) that cause MILD seal swelling but not enough to hurt anything. I had the problem in my 2000 and this did the trick for me. Now I am running Red Line in both the 2000 and 2001 (including the tranny) and after 20,000 miles - no problems with either. It is worth mentioning that these are frequently overfilled - even by the factory. It is easy to do and if it is overfilled the little bit that comes out the vent goes a long way towards blackening your "stuff" under there. My 2000 was dripping when I changed it out and it has been bone dry ever since. Doesn't cost much to try. Good luck!

I had one replace at 6k miles. Seal and differential side plate
|
I've had the left seal replaced three times, fortunately under warranty. Looks like they may have gotten it right this last time when they used a revised seal in the repair. Not sure what the cost was, but I'm sure it is not cheap.

Did it myself, ~$20 since I got the o-ring and shaft seal free from a forum member.

Ooh, sounds like a real problem. I'd suggest a good proctologist.
