I have had my corvette for almost a month and the noise from the engine is hurting me ears. A freind says its supposed to sound like that but I dont want to go deaf early. Is there any way to make it a tad quiter? Any help is appreciated. This is my only car so I drive it everywhere.

Hmm... they're pretty quiet stock, is there some sort of aftermarket exhaust work done to it?

IceDigger 07-19-2001 05:00 PM

Not that I know of, I put a k&n air filter and a new chip in it but it still sounds about the same. Those are the only things that I did to it. How could I tell if there was one? I am not very mechanically talented http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/frown.gif

Is it making a lot of noise from the motor itself or just the exhaust?

IceDigger 07-19-2001 05:09 PM

Actually it sounds like it is mostly from the back, so I would say the exhaust.

Hell I with mine was LOUDER>>>>>>>>>>ENJOY it maybe some ear plugs??

mikes84vette 07-19-2001 05:22 PM

mine does it too. it seems to be the worst around 1500-2300. it is just the R word can't spell or pronounce it from the installed exhaust system i belive.

I have flows with no cat, and its loud. http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/eek.gif How does the exhaust sound? Good or bad? Might be an aftermarket exhaust, or a busted muffler.

on mine it's that low end rumble while crusing at low speed around town.

Is it in the 1500 - 2000 RPM range? Then it's probably an exhaust resonance. When I bought my '87 one of the prior owners had gone to Midas for a new set of mufflers. The ones they put on the car were way undersized for it. This was the root of the problem. I had NOS GM Mufflers (ie original mufflers) and a NOS Y pipe with the sheilds etc... put back on the car and it's wonderful to drive now. It sounds good but doesn't have that echoey sound which just gives you a headache. http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif ~Juliet

It is possible that the rear end is out of alignment and the tires are 'singing'. This could also resonate with the exhaust noise and amplify everything. Are your tires wearing to one side more than the other? Also, some tires are just plain noisy. I had this problem with mine. Replaced tires and did alignment= nice quiet ride now.
