In the forum I see references about cat back exhaust. Is cat back a brand of exhaust system or is it a method of configuring your exhaust? In either case what are the pros and cons. If you gut your cat-converter,how do you get through emissions? Thanks for any info.

A cat back exhaust starts at the catalitic converter and goes back from there. http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif
Your car should not pass emissions without a cat. Some people have been known to take Ben Franklin with them and don't seem to have any problems. http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif

the term "Cat-back" is a physical description... This refers to the entire exhaust system from the rear flange of the cat on back to the tailpipes.

now, muffler eliminators are just that. you remove the muffler, and weld on the eliminators. cheap, and rather effecient.

There are not real cons, except price. a good quality cat back is going to cost 700.00 on up. Also, get stainless. there are 2 grades that are commonly used with exhausts... T304, and I THINK it is T316(can't remember)... T304 is ok, but the other grade is less brittle.

I don't recommend gutting the cat. when a cat is working correctly, you MIGHT loose 5 hp. MAYBE... there are high flow cats, Random Tech makes them, that will flow almost as good as a piece of tube will... without messing up the environment.

I believe in being somewhat responsible when it comes to the environment.
