I have cut my stock shifter about an 1"-1.5"and in stalled a momo 2tone blk/red one.My question is I can't take the reverse lock out ring off.The lock is disconnected since I bought the car 3yrs ago.Stock shifter is sooo tall.How does this ring come off so I can push the boot lower?

It's held in with a small set screw. Time to get out the allen wrench set. I ditched it when I went with the B&M shifter as there is no provision for connecting it.

vettes- I recommend you buy the Hurst shifter- it will drop your handle height 1.2" and give you a solid reasonable throw with little effort. The big change that alters throw length is done below the fore/aft pivot, lowering the handle height has only minimal impact on throw distance. This shifter will also do away with your reverse lockout but give you a professional, factory-like installation unlike the B&M.

Remember that the best part of the B&M is the shifter becomes an extra "control point" in the car while shifting. Since the seats are not worth squat for controlling lateral body shift you have to hang on to something in high performance corners. I find that I can use the B&M to brace myself under these situations. Recently I did a few hundred miles (once again) in my friend's C5 which has the stock 6-speed shifter in it. That car has ALWAYS felt vastly superior to my C4. But, now, with my B&M, well I thought his car felt kind of bogus. Like it had some cheap shifter out of a Toyota pickup that did nothing to aid the driver. I was really happy to get out of it and back into my C4. Once you drive a B&M Vette you begin to understand how incredible this car is.

In the view you display you cannot see the problem with the finish of the B&M. The B&M has a tapered edge under the shift handle and is flat on the sides. The Hurst is squared off and a complete round shaft, and has a groove for the factory c-clip, at the factory location. It fits perfect like factory.
Beyond the trim then of course is the effort and vibration problems of the B&M. The Hurst will not vibrate at all- it will look, feel, and perform like the factory shifter should have. I and those who have it already can assure you the Hurst is far superior to the B&M. This transmission is like no other and any comparison to other cars is absolutely meaningless. T56's and those like it are a whole different deal in the shifter mechanism, a single pivot for everything and a ball link at the bottom.
