[LT1] How do I get the serp belt off?
 

What size socket, how long of a bar, and which way to pull?

Head over to your local AutoZone and get a serpentine belt removal loaner tool. It should come with all the sockets you need to get the job done (I think it's 16 or 17mm if my memory serves me correctly).

Once you get it on there, lift upward (clockwise) and remove the belt. You may need a screw driver to help you get the belt back on as they're a pretty tight fit...

You can also just use a ratchet with the correct socket...could be 16 or 17mm as stated above....then put a pipe or a wrewnch on the end for leverage. I believe you pull towards the driver's side. It is pretty easy!

If you are going to work on your car yourself a lot I suggest buying the serpintine belt remover tool, I think mine was like 10 bucks at a local parts store. Makes it simple. LIke said aboce they are a tight fit!

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree: Yep...that's what I did, too. Getting it off was virtually a snap. Getting it on was another story. A word of advise - save the tensioner pulley itself for last when re-installing the belt (i.e., put it around all the pulleys except that one, and then slide it on the tensioner).

I've pulled mine several times by using the box end of a 17MM (I think that's the size) on the pulley and then hooking the box end of a 7/8" wrench onto the open end. Quick and easy. :yesnod:

After using the two box end method I decided to buy the proper belt tool. Now it takes about 4 seconds to get it off and about 30 seconds to get it on.

One thing about using the proper tool, you can sit on the end of it to hold the tensioner while you use both hands to get the new belt on.(since the old one stretches somewhat).

Keep the old belt handy for a spare just in case.
