Battery removal question

I am storing the vette as usual,( :( ) this year however I am removing the battery (don't want to take any chances) and it will be hooked up to the trickler. I heard something about needing a code for the radio when the battery is reconnected?? Anyone heard this? I bought my vette used and I don't know how to locate the radio security code..call dealer with Vin#????

2nd- one of my key remotes has a dead battery and the other is probably going to die soon...do I have to do a key relearn? or is that only if the PCM/BCM is disconnected??

Thanks
Frank

I should add I have an 01

Hi Frank, I can answer #2, the FOB has a different relearn proceedure than the key does, there is a short and a long version of the proceedure for relearning the FOB. If memory serves me right the short version is to hold both the lock and unlock buttons until the horn beeps. This version is usually all you have to do when you replace a dead battery in the remote, but if you disconect the car battery you may need to do the long version after that.

you actually set the THEFTLOCK radio code yourself... with the key turned off, does a little red light flash on the face of the radio? If not, the THEFTLOCK feature was never activated and you are good to go:thumbs:

if you have your manual...look up Theft deterrent radio

if a code was set... try this

Thanks guys!

can anyone confirm if I have to do the long version or key relearn when i disconnect the battery? The reason I am asking is that although I will disconnect the battery..I do plan on turning the engine over once or twice during the winter on a nice day..I don't want to let the engine sit from Nov-March without turnover.

EDIT: oops.. I just realized that you were asking about the key fob again :o you werent asking about the radio :D

Brain thanks a lot for the info and for posting the owners manual too

we'll see if anyone chimes in on my key-relearn question. My best friend is a good mechanic so i am sure he willl help out...but if I have to do a long key learn process everytime I reconnect the battery , then I have got to figure something else out.

thanks again

If you don't have the radio code, there was a post yesterday that dealt with how to unlock the radio once power is disconnected. Check it out. Otherwise, a dealer can unlock it for you, of course at a charge.

If you change the battery in the fob, it must be relearned to the car. Owners manual tells you how to do it I believe.

Instructions for what to do after fob battery replacement are also inside the fob, on the cover.

don't take the battery out of the car just get yourself a battery tender plus, plug it in hook the cables up and forget it.
