Service Manual states to remove right kick panel. Is it behind the kick panel or up in the dash? Also how big of a job is it to remove to replace the chip? 1 hour all day? As usual thanks for all of your great advice.

its in the dash. but you remove the hush panel on the botto mof the dash to get to it.
its easy. |
Passenger side behind the "bread box".
Disconnect the battery. Remove the hush pannel and the screws holding the ECM case and drop the ECM. Remove the Al access panel to reveal the CalPac. Press on the two ears at either end to release the CalPac assembly. Lift it out, noting orientation, and carefully insert the new one. Make sure it is frimly seated. Button up the ECM, install it, etc. and you are done. You can do this job in 1/2-1 hour. CAUTION: The innards of the ECM and CalPac are sensitive to static discharge. Before you open the ECM, touch the metal case to discharge any static electricity. Thereafter, DO NOT slide around on the carpet until the access lid has been reattached to the ECM. |
I am in the process of the same removel. DO you have to disconnect the wires at the bottom of the ECM? Looks like they plug in? Thanks Guys/gals(if any).

Do NOT unplug the harness. You should be able to maneuver the ECM down far enough to reach the CalPac access panel.
