I received the service manual that I bought (successfully) on eBay. It says:
1996 / Y Platform / Corvette / Service Manual / GMP/96-Y-P It's 2-i thick and weighs a ton. I've heard of some "shop manual" or other service manual that would be in a set of two books.. Did I get the right thing? Thanks, Vince. |
http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/frown.gif Probably not. The 'real' Y-Platform (Corvette) manuals come in a 2-volume set with red covers.
Does yours say "Preliminary" on the front? If so, you got hosed. There've been numerous copies of that manual sold on ebay to unsuspecting owners. Don't feel too bad, it's not a total loss, but it sure doesn't cover 'everything'. FWIW, there is currently a 2-volume set of '96 C4 manuals on Ebay; I posted a thread in the parts section a day or two ago. |

GSDreamin is correct, there is a volume for Engine/Tranny, and a volume for everything else. I don't know what your version has, but I would get the "real deal" sometime.
Yet another reason why I don't shop on ebay! http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif |
My 95 manuals have two volumes, one for electrical and emmissions, and one for everything else.
Look on the front of yours, does it say "to be replaced by" on it, if so, you got the preliminary which only has the updates from teh previous year. Another giveaway that it is teh preliminary is to look at the table of contents, if it says anywhere"refer to 95 service manual" then it's the preliminary. |
Okay, then mine is a preliminary (white cover, with "Preliminary" written accros it).
The item description on ebay said it was a Preliminary and that it was only one book, plus there was a photo of the book so I didn't get hosed, I just didn't know what I was buying. For $15, I thought it wouldn't be too much of a big deal anyway http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/wink.gif Thanks for the info, I'll try to find the real one. Vince. |
