Any factory radio has to be from another C5, 1997-2004. Radios that are from other GM models the look the same will not work.
You can swap a C5 cassette radio for a CD one from any year to any other...

The SWPS is at the bottom of the steering column at the firewall inside the car.
You can try re-seating its connector. The closeout panel will have to be removed to get to it.
If this does not help...
