But generally most will need some sort of "tooth" that a suitable sensor can see the rotation of the wheel....

Really, for only 1000hp, pretty much any alloy factory block will be fine. If you wanted strongest factory option...go LS9.

But a well built LS3 will be perfectly fine and without the weight...

Mine came off without any heat. I'm sure the pump itself will tolerate heat, but I'd be cautious in case I melted any seals etc.
