Well, your cam is toast, and all that metal is in the bottom of the pan. AT THE VERY LEAST, you have to change the cam and lifters. If it's high millage, I would pull the whole thing.

Why? It adjusts the timing to suit engine load.
It takes about 40 hp to maintain 55.
You can go up to 52-54* then.

40hp is a guess.
