Re: will a Performer RPM fit under a stock Corvette hood? (SIGNGUY)
It will fit if you use a drop base air filter setup. I have a Victor Junior + 1/2 inch spacer under my stock height hood and still have 1/2 inch clearance...
Re: will a Performer RPM fit under a stock Corvette hood? (Cali,68,L-79)
I know it won't. Been there done that.
:cuss
His hood is about an inch higher than yours.. 1973 - 1979 had the medium rise hood with about 1 inch cowl... The '68 Small Block hood has no cowl at all... You still can fit a Performer RPM under it but you will need to shave your choke tower or go with a chokeless carb and use a extreme drop base...
I use a extreme drop base on my setup and I get enough air to feed 500 ponies...

He's got a 79 and his hood is identical to my 77. Our 68's leave just a little bit of room. Even with a drop base it will hit. my friend and I mocked up the measurments from the Eldebrock site plus carb and it gave me 1.25" between the top of the carb to hood bottom. Don't think eben the drop base will clear much less when at full revs.

It will clear.. I run a 1 1/4 inch drop with a 2 1/4 inch filter.. That leaves 1/4 inch hood clearance in your case.. The engine will not rise more than 1/4 inch unless your motor mounts are worn...
I also run a bolt from the top of the air filter assembly to the carb instead of a stud to add clearance..
I checked mine - and it rises less than 1/8 inch under acceleration...

i think i can settle this...
i was just told by Lars that even tho you can make it fit...
i dont want to go there...
so in my opinion...its a closed case...
i will NOT be going there...
i think that most here would agree that Lars is THE MAN...
no offense Ollie... :) (i mean that)

I just know that I run a Victor Jr. with a spacer under the same height hood as yours and my car gets more than enough air into the engine.. (the car runs way lean on the dyno)... It all depends where you want to go with your setup... If you are not into Drag Racing - you won't need the additional horsepower that you'll gain with a better intake anyway...
