This passive entry drives me nuts! I was standing beside my car yesterday and the locks kept unlocking and locking on me. I have the key fob set to keep the passive entry off, but it's not doing the job obviously. The owner's manual doesn't show any other way to turn this annoying feature off either. I'm worried that my car will unlock itself overnight or something.
Slide the switch to turn "on" the passive entry, walk near the car and it will unlock, now walk away from the car, 20 - 30 feet, slide the switch to "off", now go back to the car, it should not unlock.....problem solved!!
Guess that's why GM got rid of the system on later C5's. Although having a switch on the FOB made things easier than the forced system of later year C4's.

I could be wrong... but dont you have to do something through the DIC??

Nope, just turn off the switch on the key fob. Left mine in passive mode for about 3 years before I finally got sick of it turning off and on while I was around it. Recently turned the active mode off.

It worked, that is awesome! Thanks!
I got the car with a key fob with a dead battery, so I put in a new one and retrained it. I had the passive function set to off, but did not realize it had to be trained as well. The owner's manual isn't specific enough on any kind of procedure to do this function.
LOL, A car company gets rid of things for one reason and one reason only. MONEY. They probably saved 20 cents per car. I love the passive feature. Yes, sometimes it can be irritating but it has stopped me from putting in an aftermarket alarm because I like it so much.

Just turn the switch off on the fob. Had this on my '99 and sometimes it was a real pain. Glad they go rid of it for the '00.
Just having the switch in the off position isn't enough though. I put a new battery in my fob, and already had the switch in the off position, but yet the passive entry function still worked. I had to do the method that Miaugi told me to do in order to get it to stop.
