Right now I am leaning towards the EM. They don't have very good pics on their web site though. I've called, and they don't have any additional pics available. Anyone here have one? Thoughts on the quality? Pics much appreciated!!!!

I am undecided if I want to go with the roll bar or roll cage also. If I go with just the roll bar, I can tie it to the front of the frame later. I would like to see how EM's forward bars are made. This is a track only car, so cutting the dash is not a problem. DRM doesn't seem to make a cage, only the roll bar.
the DRM bar has a little disclamer below it saying its not a roll over bar, just a chassis stiffening bar.
so if you want protection you'd best go with the EM bar or another source.

Good point. Sure would like to see some pics of the EM bars. I don't typically come off $600-$800 for something I have never seen.

Nobody in their right mind is going to say this bar is track approved and sell it to some fool who may or may not install it correctly.
I'm runnign the DRM bar and have no complaints. Most all of the bars will be the same. They all have to mount in the same 4 points.
If you want true track protection, you have to go all out.
I have the DRM bar in my 88. No complaints and no regrets! Quality was excellent and I never had a problem passing tech. I had an additional piece of steel welded to it so I could bolt my harness to it. I had mine powder coated and then welded it in. The bar does restrict rear vision, especially if you have a 5 point and try to back up.
It's been a number of years since I've put it in, but I'll say this. I measured the thickness and found it to meet some spec, NHRA? can't remember for sure. I think the disclaimer is more of a CYA for DRM than anything else.
EM used to just repackage a lot of their stuff, not sure if they still do.
The only true way is to have it custom fabbed. Not necessarily to the level Jeff showed, but the pics of the other would not be NHRA legal, but then I don't know if you are drag racing or not, I'm sure for roadracing a custom rollbar/cage would still be best.
I have an Autopower 4 point bar in my 1985. Fits just fine. If I decide to go full cage at some time I can purchase the additional bars from Autopower and install. I purchased my bar directly from Autopower.
The DRM and EM bars look like they are good quality pieces as well.
I have the R-DRacing roll bar in my 91 Z-07, its welded in. I'm real happy with it. I even have some brackets clamped on it that let me bolt the removeable targa top in, use the locking tab by the hatch latch. I just have to have a VentMaster or equivalent to keep the hatch open an inch and a half.

For NHRA, it has to be a 5 point bar, correct? The side bar (on the driver's side) would need to go from the roll bar to the frame under the driver's side sill, crossing between your shoulder and elbow, which makes getting in and out fun .

For that type of rollbar, 6 points are required (one on the passenger side as well), plus if the car is a unibody (tough call on the C4's semi-monoque style chassis), you need a "guardrail bar" that runs from the bottom of the main hoop to the front attachment point. NHRA is a drag racing sanctioning body and what's legal for them may not necessarily be legal for a road racing/ autocross type of application.
You need to get a copy of the rulebook that your sanctioning body requires in order to conform to the safety regs.

You are only required 1 door bar, per nhra rulebook. They do consider vettes to be full framed cars. The only time you need a rocker sill bar is if the OE rocker has been modified. The roll bar must extend to the floor. Swing outs are permitted.

Yes. For NHRA a 5 point bar is fine. The side bar can be a "swing out" at the track, which can also be removable for your daily driving.
I think the point I'm trying to make is that the main hoop has to go through the floor to the frame, not like the EM and DRM(and the R-D) bars pictured above.
