I should have had my 4LT built by now, but the constraint didn't let that happen.
Why go through so much R&D, money and hype but not have it available in time??
I had been waiting for GM to come up w/something similar to the 4LT for years and was one of the first to place an order once I heard of the option, but due to the delay, I cancelled my order.
For now, GM has lost one sale b/c of their poor management.....it seems like there is always something w/GM....when will the ever learn???
Not at all unusual for new options to be delayed at model start-up. This is not just a GM phenomenon. Many possible problem areas. Maybe a vendor has not been able to ramp up production. Maybe quality issues...

Porsche will do the same thing, some times taking up to four months on some items. attacking GM like their the only one who does this is a bit over the top.
No you are right, its not just GM, its just GM that screws up 9 times out of 10.

I understand your frustration as I know when I want something, I usually want it now. With that said however, the earliest released information about the 2008 model indicated that the 4LT would be on constriant. The updated information said that 4LT would be on constraint. The production detail arrived and said that the 4LT was on constraint and yet you are somehow surprised and pissed off that the 4LT is on constraint, hmm.
As Zymurgy indicated this is not uncommon for a new product launch and dozens of factors can contribute.
How do you know it's poor management and not planned? Why not drum up buzz about the first 08's and then months later drum up some more buzz with a mid-year release of the new "super" interior?
Who knows what they do, but I'm guessing they aren't running around like a chicken with its head cut off to try and get the first 4lt's out. They have a plan - it just may not be a good one.

For example, look at all of the current owners waiting for the iPod solution ...
Just before the Plant Closed--spoke to somebody who is up on all of this ,and since I am in the same boat----he told me that Start up for 4LT is the 2nd week of October---with full ramp up by MID November.....Scheduling for Production of 4LT will start up in Mid to late August...thats all he told me and I guess we can only hope that maybe during the Plant shutdown there will be changes---but this guy is usually ON TARGET...HTG39
It seems to me after watching the new year roll-out on Corvettes for a couple of years that if you want a fully optioned Corvette (especially with an option that has not been offered in previous years), you need to be prepared to wait until 4 or 5 months after production starts to get the car you want without waiting out constraints. Of course by that time, half the nation is in crappy weather, so who wants a car in Nov that you can't drive.
With me, I wanted the Z51 that was highly constrained, and I was willing to wait. I ordered my 2006 on 12/30/2005, shortly after that the Z51 went off constraint, and I picked it up at NCM on 03/21/2006.
If you think waiting 4 or 5 months to get exactly what you want is too long...You're wrong... you are lucky...!!! Just check with some of us who ordered the '05 Verts, fully equiped...I know it was 9 months for my museum delivery from date of order....constraints...?? We wrote the book on frustration caused by constraints and changes to TPW's...!!
I spoke with a contact who is "in the know." It's a combination of supplier issues and installation issues.
You'd rather have you $4000 interior installed correctly and look good, would't you? Or would you prefer to have them install whatever they have in whatever manner they can just so you can have your car today? I don't think so.
Of course, then there would be a thread about how crappy the new interior is and not to waste your money....
Just relax - they're trying to get it right before they sell the cars.
Saw a 4LT at the Corvette Coral at Lime Rock today. There was one (vin number 5) next to a LT3. There was a difference but both new interiors looked very good.
You still have until November to drive the car without snow, if you live in a snowy area. And if you aren't ****, all of winter to drive it on dry/clear days. I think it's kind of silly to cancel the order just because it's delayed a few months.
