Awsome advice, looks like I'm going with long tubes. I've seen some different threads on keeping the stock H-pipe and others who say get rid of it and get a x-pipe. What do some of you say? Obviously money is an issue and if keeping the stock H vs the X would save $ but wont compromise the overall sound of the exhaust I might do that.
On a different note, if some of you have vids of your set up I would love to watch and hear them, knowing of course sound quality isn't like the real thing. However, if you got vids of your set up please feel free to post them. Thanks guys for all the info and helping out a relatively newb...

The x pipe will get rid of the motor boat sound

I would keep the stock Hpipe if it was me. I like the popping and cackling and the HP gain is negligable. Save the money unless you get a great deal on a used set of headers that includes the Hpipe. I got my Kooks, with Hpipe and HF cats for $500 shipped. Just wait on a deal and get the whole thing if you have to have an Xpipe.

I installed Granatelli exhaust on my 2001 A4 one year ago. $500 vs. $1000 to $1500. Good quality and sound. If you cut the cross section of an H-pipe apart between the two parallel pipes, you will find a hole the size of a quarter in each pipe. Go for a X-pipe when you can.

While I agree that LTs are the way to go for most, shorty headers do have their place. I do agree that paying $1,000 for new shorty headers is crazy in which case a used set of LTs including the cats and x-pipe, which can be found in the parts section, is probably the best route to take.

I was able to get my BBK shorties used for $150 shipped. I installed them myself and have no issues with burned O2 sensor wires, crossing the wires, exhaust leaks, fitment issues, error codes, or anything of the like. I gained about 10-rwhp and didn't have to pay someone to install them since I could do these myself so the cost was minimal (last dyno was 301-rwhp, since then I did the A&A exhaust mod and the shorty headers and picked up 16-rwhp). I was able to install them one side at a time too. (swapped one side, drove it for a week to work, then swapped the other side the following weekend).

I picked up some sound and power, but of course LTs would pick up more. But for $150 and the ease of install, I couldn't pass that up.

I had LTs on my LS1 Camaro and they were kind of a pain. Very glad I went the shorty route this time around.

Cracks me up when I see guys state shortys are pure ****, what a crock.

They can produce exceptional torque, for one, are much lighter than stock manifolds, sound decent, and if HotJet coated, run cooler too. Not to mention they look pretty sweet !

With my 03 A4, **** dual cones, **** flowmasters and **** shortys, I tuned at 331 RWHP and 347 RWtorque at RPM Motors. This is better than alot of guys with full LT catless into borlas or what ever with 'true' cold air intake. I am in Calif. so being smog legal is first. I spent a ridiculous amount to buy them new and that part I`m not too pleased about and wouldn`t you know right after I bought mine from BB, they lowered the price by 200.00,

Having said that, you are in Carolina, IF they allow long tubes, go for them better than shortys, but they are more of a pain to install, etc.
The BB shortys attach directly to the OEM X pipe flange.

Good luck,
Les

Exactly that is why everyone buys shorties, because they rule

No people buy them because as clearly stated, they are smog legal, etc. And your right there are a dozen to choose from because no one buys them.

Oh I love them, I am changing my Kooks out next week because I want to spend some money to change from stock manifolds to shiny stock manifolds. I am messing with you bro. If you have the money to change a stock part out for a part that is very similiar then why not. I need the most for my money and that is long tubes...........agree?

Don't you have a job. Stop giving people a hard time. Hey, I might need to borrow your car for a great cause in a couple of days. I will call you later.

Note yet another clear point made by me, "since you are in Carolina, LT`s are better".

My only point was, exceptional quality shortys such as BB 304SS are anything but pure trash, as some would claim.

Hopefully that "great cause" is seeing if she will burn rubber for 100 feet,

Bro., just as an idea, I`m SURE there are CF members in your area. Why can`t a whole qroup of Vettes show up ?

I would promote this idea myself on the main forum but I think I have joked around to much to even approach something as serious as this.

My thoughts are with you all, in truth.

Peace,
Les

Mr. Stewart,

Please go to the C5 general section. I started a thread of support.
Please post there so that the situation becomes elevated and supported, IF, you think this is going to help make the young lady in any way shape or form.

Thank you,
Les
