Default HELP! Driver window wont go up

Newbee here - my driver window (05') stopped working after a battery disconnect today. I was screwing around with the center consul and seats (took them out). The passenger window still works, but the driver window is all the way down and wont go up at all? Any suggestions? ALL the plugs have been reconnected....the 10A fuse for the driver door is OK. I did not check the 30A fuse for power windows because Im not sure how to get to it?

Some here have fixed problems like this by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for 3-5 minutes and then reconnecting. You nearly always have to reset the window indexing if you can get the window to go up at all. I suspect your passenger window needs it too.

If you can get the driver window to go up afterwards, do this to both windows:

Raise the window and hold the up switch an extra 3 seconds. Release. Without lowering the window, hold the up switch again for 3 seconds. Release. Done.

This is called resetting of the window indexing or power window initialize and is in the owner's manual. See page 2-17 of the 2005 owner’s manual, page 2-18 of the 2006 owner’s manual, page 87 of the 2007 owner’s manual, page 2-18 of the 2008 owner’s manual.
The power windows fuse is the closest fuse to the bottom on the extreme right side of the instrument panel fuse block in that fuse block under the passenger side toe board.

tried the battery trick already ,didnt work. I actually found the answer on accident. The door has to be closed when you roll it up the first time. After that, it will work with the door open, go figure. Thanks for the quick response.

Interesting information. Hadn't heard that before, but not much about these cars surprises me anymore.

Glad you found it without having to take it to the dealer.

Thank you so much for this. Had the same issue and fixed it this morning. I had already been thinking about how much it would have cost to take it to the dealer. Dealers must hate this forum. 😊

We're frequently better than the dealer because:

1. We work cheaper.

2. We're frequently faster than the dealer.

3. Sometimes we know things that the dealer doesn't seem to know.

It pains me to bring this to the top again but it saved my *** today, after having the interior ripped out over the long holiday I thought I must have fried something. Saved me much time and aggravation and for that I thank all of the posters above.

always remember any thing weird is always battery related . You might have to reset your radio and nav also.

Default Blast from the past

So not sure if I'm reading this wrong but just had this issue today. Shipped my car around the world and showed up with the battery dead. Replaced battery now only passenger window works at all. Reset passenger indexing, worked like a charm. But didn't do anything for the driver side.
So in trying this method, do I re-disconnect the battery, then attempt to open the window by climbing into the passenger side initially and raising the driver's window with door closed?

Regards,
Charles

... So I tried what I listed above and.... Didn't work. Even tried it by leaving the battery off for longer, no dice. Would love any advice

Tried it, didn't work... Maybe I don't know the steps or it's a larger issue

When I had that problem with my 08. I needed to use my Tech 2 to roll up and down. Then it was fixed.
I'm sure there is another to do it without the Tech 2

ALCON,

Just to close up for anyone who reads this and wants to know the result... I pulled the window regulator and it was a bad motor so I ended up swapping the regulator assy and problem fixed. No battery or window-switch "long-press" magic in my scenario. Thanks for all that offered.

Charles

Thank you. This post saved me lots of money and headache. Disconnecting the negative terminal for a few minutes and then re-indexing the windows (with toe doors CLOSED) did the trick on my 2007 C6 Z06.
