You could have a bad ball joint or wheel bearing, did you try jacking up the car and using a big pry bar under each wheel to see if there is any play in any wheel?

Also, did you check to make sure your tunnel plate bolts are tight?

Just grasping at straws trying to help. It is maddening. Wishing you luck.

Yeah, I know. The question will it come out the other end in better shape than when it went in. The dealers wants it for 2 or 3 days. Eventually I'll give in....I'm getting real close as my idea list is getting real short.

Didn't try these but I'll put them on my list if I don't give in first. - thanks.

Lubed the anti sway bar bushings.

NOTHING....STILL DOING IT.

The easiest way for me to duplicate this now is to go over a speed bump fairly slow and at an angle. The side to side motion causes the thumping/bumping noise.

This is such a PITA.
OK, so on my way to the morning Starbucks stop it seems as if the problem is now 4X worse or more. I'm off all week so the assault continues. I may remove one side of the end links again. Maybe lub'ing the anti-sway bar bushing aggravated some bad links but I thought I already ruled them out. Its odd that anything I did above would make the problem worse. Did lubing the spring bump stops make it worse? Normal logic would tell me no. I'm also going to check the tunnel plate as previously suggested. I'm gonna find this problem damnit....I'm one of those that just can't loose when I latch onto something like this . Since it got worse it has something to do with what I touched yesterday so I guess thats a start.

Hmmm. Now something is ringing a bell. When I replaced the sway bars on my C5 with C5Z bars, I used the factory bushings and they creaked like crazy. No lube would fix them.

I bought Poly bushings from Ecklers (cheap) and they were silent from then on. No problem.

Dunno why the factory bushings were quiet until I replaced them with the other factory bushings for a C5z but it is what it is...and it's a common problem with C5's.

Did you replace your sway bar? If so, get some poly bushings for $15!

Doubt it as I haven't found anyone else with the same symptoms, I think I just got a hold of a finicky car. Kinda sucks..... Its going to be something stupid, like something banging against something else that cannot be seen.

Okay, I finally give up. I've checked everything I can get my hands on. Time to throw in the towel. I tried to keep my car out of the dealers hands but it looks like I've failed.

Gonna have to find some time (PITA) to leave the car at the dealer for several days while they tear my car apart searching for the mystery noise.

Default keep us posted

Though I've got a C4 these are great tips for any car noise problems, please share your results and anything you glean extra from the dealer.

So (can't help myself, 2 cents) it happens taking a speed bump at an angle for sure, thus the front wheels are turned; what about straight over said bump, same or no?

Well, good luck, glad you've got a warranty, I can't imagine the carte blanche bill a dealer would run up otherwise.

Straight over a bump is happens only every now and then. Wheels straight going over the bump at an angle cause it big time.

Default sway bar links

Yep, that fixed a bad noise in my C4 recently, bushings shot; thing is mine didn't need that till over 100K miles.

How you managed to need it in 6K miles... do you drive sideways or somethin?? Congrats.

Unbelieveable.

Glad you got it figured out.

I've got a mystery noise that I'm convinced is in the RR. I've had the wheel off several times looking for the source- I'm thinking clutchpacks in the diff, but I guess I'll pull the sway links and do a test.

Great thread- very helpful. THANKS!

Yeah, when the dealer called and said it was the front end link (that I knew was bad but thought it could have nothing to do with it) I thought they were blowing smoke up my a$$. The acoustics in the cabin can definitely create ventriloquist noises.

Scottycards - see thread:

MachSilver08 - Great to hear it's solved! I'm sure the last annoying noise in my 07 is the same. Going to check it out now.
Thanks

Follow up:
I diagnosed the noise as being the stabilizer bar end links, but learned a bit along the way.
At first, I disconnected the right side link from the lower connecting point (easier to unbolt than the upper) and ty-wrapped it to the bar. On the test drive I found out that it makes a lot of noise, since the remaining connection on the stabilizer bar can jiggle it quite a bit.
I then disconnected the other link at its lower point, ty-wrapped that link and pushed the bar up and out of the way. Now I'm test driving it with no stabilizer bar connection. THE NOISE IS GONE!

More observations:
1. - On my 07, in order to un-bolt the link, you need to insert a "Star" wrench in the bolt to hold it, NOT an Allen key (although that may work), then remove the nut with a 11/16" box end or open end wrench. They were not loose to start.
2. - It only required a pound or so to move the stabilizer bar in the center rubber bushings, so I don't think that would ever be a source of noise.
3. - When I re-installed the stabilizer bar, the noise did NOT come back. I believe this is because the bolt portion, of the links, is part of the ball joint itself and it rotates when re-installing. The ball part probably ended up in a position with less wear and less play. I'll bet the noise will return in time.

This test is fairly easy to do and will certainly test for stabilizer link noise. I plan to try to get the dealer to replace them.

Hope this helps.

2nd Follow up:
The local dealer replaced the two front stabilizer bar links.
THAT CURED THE PROBLEM! The Vette is now quiet. At least no "annoying" noises.

To my experience, I'll sum up the 3 annoying noises.

1. - Targa top squeek - Grease front latch rollers.
2. - Rear end clunk - Use Amsoil and their friction modifier.
3. - Front clicking/snapping - Replace front stabilizer bar links.

It's nice not to have all those random noises.

Just took mine into the dealer ... finally, after having lived with this kind of noise issue for a year! I was very reluctant to have the local dealer touch it but my fears were unfounded. They did an excellent job. Turned out to be a broken right rear shock mount. They did a temp fix by welding it up while we wait for the new mount and new shock.
