Default Battery Cables & Starter

Anybody ever notice what looks like a bulge in the ground battery cable underneath the car? Not sure if its an issue, but I'll be replacing both pos & gnd cables. While I'm at it, I'm thinking replacing the starter with a hi-torque model. Any brand recommendations? Thx.

If there is a bulge in the cable it usually means corrosion. Replace the cable. I use the GM mini starter and have for years. Provides quick easy trouble free starts hot or cold. Weighs about 1/2 what the normal one does.

I like the jegs starter Just put one on a high compression bbc and it spins it over fast on the batery cables go to a heavy duty truck supply
and they can make you one to the proper length but a heavier guage it will do the new starter good

thanks donnie

The oem cables are aluminum clad in copper, not the greatest, but have lasted well. When replacing, I would use a copper wire like welding cable, very flexible.

thanks donnie. i was checking out the jegs site, not sure if i need to spend $500 for a racing starter. how about a hi-torque heat resistant model. Are rebuilds ok for the most part? i got a orig engine being rebuilt with maybe 300 hp all said and done. Gordon- that mini starter- do you mean Gear Reduction Starter. Ecklers has one on there website $150.

The GM mini is better, but you can also go with a BB starter with a lifetime waranty from any parts house. Pretty cheap
