Being that you drive 80% in S mode...why? DO you feel a better response then in D ?
I notice a lot of difference in S mode.
The throtte response is touchier and each gear winds out a littel longer with crisper shifts.
Feels like having a shift kit installed.
In D mode, the throttle response, and shifts, are slightly soft and not as crisp.

Always had automatics, except of my 08. Thought I’d try a manual, that lasted about 2000 miles and I traded it in for a 09 A6. I'll never make that mistake again.
I like the A6 in my 07 coupe. I've been using the S mode and the response is much better than the D mode. It shifts quicker and stronger and downshifts precisely. I occassionally use the paddles and am not disappointed with the response, either. I think it's a keeper.
It seems that it depends on what year C6 you have. My 06 A6 is first year production and is very finicky around town. I cant put the Cow tune on it in fear of a blown warranty. The drive and Sport mode are no different whatsoever. The downshifts from 3 rd to second or to first from second have a huge shift shock. I run 100% paddles because D or S does a short shift. I have had the trans reflashed to no avail.
I canot updgrade to the 09. It s not just a matter of software.
I do however enjoy the no clutch aspect and the good launch with the auto. Sorry about the long post.
Guns don't kill people...PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!
Tunes don't kill Drivetrains---
PEOPLE KILL DRIVETRAINS!!!
Meaning that... You have nothing to worry about with regards to your warranty. A tune WILL NOT kill your engine or transmission...UNLESS you're an ANIMAL and wrecklessly abuse your vehicle.
These cars don't break. Period.
It kills me to see guys suffering with stock tunes when the A6 has SO MUCH MORE TO OFFER when it's loaded with MY A6 TUNE.
Seriously, just about the only C6's having drivetrain warranty issues are those that are TRACKED, ABUSED, and improperly tuned.
I've been around these cars quite a bit and have honestly NEVER seen a C6 engine or trans die that didn't have a really good reason for it.
It is truly amazing how much punishment that A6 can take...
Trust me, if I ain't killed one yet....YOU WON'T!
Don't let the "warranty jitters" keep you from truly enjoying your A6 Vette!
I was hit by a drunk driver and the L5-S1 disc in my back constantly pushed on my sciatic nerve causing me a lot of left leg, foot, and buttock pain. (I've since had surgery.) But at the time my vehicles were a 94 Wrangler, 98 Accord, and 68 Mustang all standard shift (and a 95 Tahoe, but automatic).
The clutches were starting to get to me a little, especially the Accord because it was rather a stiff pedal. So I thought getting an A6 would be best for me, but after driving a manual the pedal is effortless. I enjoy driving manuals, and since my Vette isn't a daily driver I decided it had to be a manual.
But I must admit, getting a little older now and we're thinking of buying a new Accord.... probably going to go with auto.
i just want to know if anyone appreciates how nice the a6 is in their vette.
Mine's an 09 for what it's worth and i keep the shifter in sport.
I find the a6 highly responsive, sensing what to do, according to my driving.
Whether i'm rolling around town or cruising on the highway and need to pass or simply want to nail it for fun.
I find it senses just when to shift, up or down and into just the right gear depending on the situation.
I'll agree maybe things are not so perfect when using the paddles as some have voiced their thoughts.
Over all i'm happy with the paddles around town,..
But in spirited driving need to use them more to give my thoughts.
Aside from that. I'm extremely happy with the a6.
Does anyone else feel this way
All my personal cars have been manuals (4 speeds, 5 speeds, and 6 speeds) from 1969 to 2006. I would RATHER EAT WORMS than to drive an auto.
Then I got the 06 Vette with an A6. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THAT PIECE OF CRAP MANUAL TRANNY AGAIN!!!!
Love the A6.
"piece of crap tranny??" I think NOT my friend. Just because you're retiring you shouldn't talk down on the manuals as I don't think ANYTHING is crap about my manual tranny.

I agree. I have an '07 and very happy with the A6 in S mode and using the paddles. I do my own ecm engine tuning but have not tuned my tranny (except for disabling upshift torque reduction) since I am happy with the A6 in its stock form and refuse to stress it with more tuning. I also drag race my car and S mode works great.

For one thing, at wide open throttle, S mode shifts gears near redline while in D mode it shifts at around 5800 rpm and you get quicker shifts. That's why drag racers all use S mode.

I learned to drive on a '61 Dodge (farm) pickup with a four speed - granny/bulldog 1st and non-synchro 2nd.
My first 'real' car was a stick '67 Cougar (in 1970). Since then, I've owned dozens of cars and trucks, most of them stick. Over the last ten or so years I got into the habit of buying Ford Mustang GT/Cobras convertables, all stick.
I am now headed to 55, sit in traffic, have had back problems since I was in my mid-20's.
I love my A-6 paddle shifter. Sometimes I still want that third pedal on the left, but I can get over it.

Sorry, the 6 speed manual in my 94 Z28 was a very nice tranny. The same tranny in my 01 Z28 was not nearly as nice. Now with all the hydraulic clutch issues (pedal sticking to the floor) and the other issues (do a search) I really don't think the current manual is very good.
Sorry if I offended you, just surprised that any young working manual drivers would even be reading this thread!

I'm pretty darn young. But, I have switched. I like the manual a lot. It is a great tranny. After taking a spin in a friends 08 A6 I was absolutely floored in more then one way. So, I went and for the first time bought a 09 Vette (my 10th) with a auto.
I'm not at all cutting up the manual. It's a great tranny and fun. But, you manual guys need to get behind the wheel of a 08-10 Vette with a A6 before you judge.
Hey, I know old habits die hard. I was one of those guys that said autos were for old guys and women. Now I will never make myself look like a total fool saying that ever again.
if you think the A6 is good you have not driven a real auto sports car..for ex: M3,M5,M6, just about all of the AMG's, maseratti, and obviously ferarri and lambos..now those are responsive!

Actually I have driven everyone except a Maseratti as a member in my club and a former owner. And I do think the A6 is awesome.
