I've done some research, and found that the Odyssey 34R-PC1500 fits perfectly in my 2008 coupe. Here is a link to the specs and dimensions of this battery:

Disclaimer: The information listed here is correct to the best of my knowledge. GM and or Odyssey might change specifications of their parts and part numbers.

First, a little background on the C6 coupe batteries and trays. According to my research, C6 coupes came with the following batteries and trays from the factory:

As you can see 2005, 2008 and 2009 use the same trays. 2006 and 2007 models use a different tray. 2005 cars use batteries with the postive post on passenger side of the battery. 2006-2009 cars use batteries with the positive post on the driver side of the battery (also called "reverse" post).

Battery Sizes, in millimeters, as listed from AC Delco and Odyssey:

As you can see, the Odyssey is a replacement for group 34 batteries. Bugman has already shown that a group 34 Optima battery fits. I wanted an Odyssey battery, however.

Getting back to the battery trays, the 2006 and 2007 trays are wider than the 2005, 2008, and 2009. Part number 10352084 on left, and part number 10268430 on the right:










The smaller 2005, 2008 and 2009 tray, part number 10268430 fits the Odyssey 34R-PC1500 battery better than the wider 2006 and 2007 tray. Here are a couple of comparison shots:

Note in the 2006 and 2007 tray, the hold down clamp needed to be pushed full travel towards the battery. The battery was not securly clamped to my satisfaction, as the battery could still move in the tray.

The Odyssey 34R-PC1500 battery in the 2005, 2008, and 2009 tray fits perfectly, and the hold down clamp secured the battery properly.

Additional Notes:

One of my concerns was access to the cabin filter door. Some have used a group 35 battery, but the group 35 is an inch taller. I believe an inch taller battery would have blocked the cabin filter door. The Odyssey 34R-PC1500 is no taller than the original battery.

Odyssey also makes the model 34-PC1500, which has the posts on the proper sides for 2005 cars. Battery dimensions and specifications are listed as the same as the model 34R-PC1500, other than not having "reverse" posts.


Conclusions


In my opinion, if you want the best battery with the most reserve capacity, the Odyssey is the way to go. Based on my research, here are the combinations that should work for the C6:

2005 - Buy the Odyssey 34-PC1500 battery and bolt it in.

2006 and 2007 - Buy the battery tray for 2005, 2008, and 2009 cars, GM part number 10268430. Swap out the tray. Buy Odyssey 34R-PC1500 battery and bolt it in.

2008 and 2009 - Buy Odyssey 34R-PC1500 battery and bolt it in.

True, if you're looking to save money and weight that's the way to go.

On the other hand, the Odyssey 34R-PC1500 produces 880 Cold Cranking Amps and has a reserve capacity of 135 minutes. It also has a Deep Cycling Capability of 400 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. A lightweight battery cannot produce that level of performance.

I always want to save weight. I also take battery specifications with a grain of salt. Identical batteries from different retailers have huge differences in specifications. Some battery retailers are "optimistic". I would also add that I'm in Southern California, so I don't need cold-weather capabilities.

Nice post! An alternative for the 2006/2007 folks is what I just did; install the PC-1200MJT. It is a perfect fit, although it does require a HDS hold-down strap instead of the GM wedge as the sides are straight. No need to buy and install a new tray.

Follow-up: I installed the 10268430 tray ($12.50 from closest Chevy dealer) and the Odyssey 34R in my 06. Your advice was on the money. The fit is perfect, and the cabin filter door is still accessible.

Man... I ordered the PC1500R because of this thread. I have a 2008. I didn't realize that some corvettes don't have the battery in the hatch. My battery 'tray' is a different size altogether. Looks like my battery location is 7.25" x 11.5". My battery clamps down with two bolts and a cross member. Oh well, hopefully when the battery arrives in the morning it will still work. My fault for assuming this would work for other models for 2008 :-)

I know a PC1200 MJT will fit in a 2009 Zo6. But since the battery is in a compartment you dont really need the Metal Jacket.
So you can drop the MJ off the end of the P/N
