Like Joe Deb Vette, I've been looking at kits. Doesn't look like there's much to them. And then there's the front air dam on the car I just bought...... It's so chewed up I started to think maybe it's already lowered. (?) Either that or the PO had a routine obstacle. I've ordered a replacement.

Wow! That's pretty bad. Mine had a few nicks, I took a file and shaved it down a little bit, looks much better. Was looking around to see if anyone made a carbon fiber lip...think that would look pretty cool, but the lower I go, I'm sure I will scrape more than I do now...especially since I live in NJ. I'll post pics at some point when all the work is complete, wheels, tires, lowering, etc...
Generally speaking (or specifically for those that want to measure) what is the distance/clearance on a factory vette. Say...front/center air dam to the pavement?

Center airdam to pavement 2 7/8" so no problem making it over cigarette butts. 4 X 4 would be a different matter.
Here is the car fully loaded for a trip for two and a full tank of gas. I don't dare go any lower.

That picture is makes the early C4 look like a frikken machine. I think that is the best shot I have ever seen to show the lines, the fact that its's a vert helps a lot also.
Me too.....it felt light at about 155, so I dropped it a little long story short I'd do some motor mods....speeds would increase...and I kept lowering it until it felt solid no matter how fast I'm going......

The handling I speak of isn't about lift at high speed in a straight line...
Here's a couple of recent pics - done with the basic kit at a vette specialists.
If I had done this I wouldn't have had the front quite so low.
The height of the rear still changes quite a bit depending on fuel tank level.
Also once you've lowered, the characteristics of the suspension will be slightly different - the spring does not go into full compression before you hit the bump stops (reduced range of movement), which is really felt for example on those little skinny speed humps you get in parking lots.
I've always felt the front was too soft anyway, despite having brand new spring and Bilsteins right before I bought the car. Would love to try a Z51 car for comparison!
So in my car's case it now needs stiffer springs and/ or dampers for ideal handling.
