Project Convertible Grand Sport conversion begins...

First of all, thanks to Gene Culley for the great service on the kit!
Here is a great pdf in the first post with step by step.

There is a gap to fill on the front fenders see pics and fix here. Gotta fill the gap or water and dust get up in the engine compartment.

I plan on posting up photos and tips we may learn as we do this. My buddy Mike Clark (Taaz024) is doing the wrench work, and his brother Darrel is doing the paint at his shop Pride Auto Body in Pompano Beach.
Looks odd sans fenders!

Anyone need some Lemans blue fenders and a nose?

EDIT JUST GOT IT BACK...I LOVE IT!! DARREL AND MIKE CLARK OF PRIDE AUTO BODY WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE THE CAR PERFECT. THESE PICTURES DON'T DO IT JUSTICE. I WILL GET SOME DAYLIGHT PICS AND POST THEM LATER. THESE PICS WERE AT TWILIGHT AS THEY WERE PUTTING A FINAL DETAIL ON THE CAR.
Here are a bunch of pics

A few posted below too.
Here are some before pics

And After
The new steamroller tires ride great, and traction is greatly improved.

The wide fenders make the car look SLAMMED. I love it.

Thanks again Darrel and Mike! Great job, you treated it like it was you own. I sure appreciate it.

You'll have a one of a kind.........a Lemans Blue Grand Sport.......well almost.

Your black Z06 wheels will live on....as will your z06 sized drag radials!
Wouldn't have done this without you. You were the inspiration.
And it's really cool that the old Corvette Challenge gang, you, Taz, Stevo, and Roger are all playing key roles in this project!

It sure is like old times bud!! I can't wait to finish this car. I am hoping to have it completed by Wednesday. I will take plenty of pics along the way.
Just think Joe! Wider stance, one of a kind look, no more GM orange peel and a whole lot of power. Sounds like a sweet ride to me!

I do have one question. Where did all the rubber come from that I scraped out of the rear fender wells? Could it be from drag racing?? What is a drag racer doing putting a wide body kit on anyway? I guess you still have to look good when your already one of the fastest vettes around.
Oh, did I mention the 5 pence coin i found in the right rear quarter panel?? I guess that's my tip. lol.

Please post up any tips or tricks or problems you find in the project as you go so that others can learn!

Here is a hot tip! If you have a trailer hitch on your C6 then plan on about an additional 20 minutes for the bumper removal. There are 4 small phillips head screws that the hitch obstruct. You have to use a tiny screw driver and strong finger tips to remove them.
The good thing is that the bumber doesn't really have to come off the car to do the kit unless your repainting everything like we are.
Another tip would be to borrow someones lift. Much easier!!!
I also had fun with the fact that you can't flip the top cover up with the trunk even the slightest bit open. You have to open and close both panels a few times to get all the screws out and remove the fender safely.
Post the pics!!

Now I know you can handle the paint, I'll order my rear quarters

and buy the paint, PPg.
the rear i can do on my lift at home, I just can not Paint worth a
sheeet

Joe, can't wait to see it!!

My buddy wanttospeed mounted up my new tires, Nitto Invo 295/35/18 and 345/30/19. Thanks Stevo!
Great price from Roger at Horsepower Sales! Thanks Roger!

And Robert, thanks again for the great deal on the wheels.
I've always been a fan of the chrome rims, as is my wife. But time to try something different. The black will match my black interior and top. Shoes gotta match the belt, right?

Oh my what's becoming of me...first I'm worried about fashion, now, I'm going to trailer my car to the mile event...I hope this wide body conversion and having a freshly painted car doesn't turn me into a **waxer**

I doubt it. I've got a pickle jar (no kidding) of rubber from inner quarters, I have to post a pic of that later.
