Another friend suggested I just go to Midas and have them cut the stock mufflers off and have them hold up samples for me to listen to until I hear what I'm listening for. Of course, that wont resolve the drone issue.
Any baffled muffler will not drone but the problem is you can't just use any muffler with your car. It has to fit in place, have the proper muffler hanger on top of the muffler and have angled tips out the rear that fit well in the openings in the bottom of the bumper. The mufflers are also partially visible. Not that it's impossible just a bit of a pain requiring some custom fab work.
I was in the same situation with my '94. I wanted a certain sound and I wanted it CHEAP. I spent hours researching, and for what I wanted, it was a no brainer that working with the stock exhaust was my best bet. Most aftermarket systems for our cars have a 2.5"id, whereas the stock system has a 2.75"id at MOST points. What I set out to do was to make an unrestricted 2.75"id catback. I replaced the center res with a 2.75"id x pipe specifically made for the c4 and 3" short powersticks to replace the rather restrictive mufflers. Here are some pics and you have to watch the video . Keep in mind, I don't even have longtubes yet...

Be sure to watch in 480p, not 360p (it increases the audio quality)
And FYI, those sawblades are history. I'm now running ZR1's
Try not to do exactly what I did though as like being the only one with this setup :P. I receive upwards of 5 compliments a day on it

Bob, for LT1's I know a lot of peeps here have left the stock mufflers on but removed the resonator and replaced it with an x pipe with favorable results, so from a value perspective (that and you want to keep your stock tips), that might be your best option.
Visit my youtube channel iplaybassandgh2 to see that this does absolutely NOTHING for sound

yep, here comes the subjective part... The x tubes in place of resonator do add a "little" tone and sound, but you're right - NOTHING incomparison to what you've done.
my subjective take on your sound vid:
too loud. i'd have a noise ticket in a day.
besides, i date women more than half my age so that kind of sound ain't gonna work for me.

Lol, I don't let women dictate my desires for my car...
My chick digs it
I didn't buy my vette to quietly cruise around going 10mph under the speed limit on the highway like every vette driver I've ever passed lol
At this point, overall I think I like the sound of the magnaflows the best over the ones I’ve heard live. Corvette Central has a pair of MFs for my car with the LT1 tip for 259.00 a pair (part #324337). In the description it says, “There are no chambers, no baffles and no louvers to restrict exhaust flow.” I heard them on their website, and have read some good reviews so we’ll see how it goes. If you see them in the for sale section of the site, you’ll know what happened.

Bob I tried Magnaflows, not those ones but the expensive s/s ones with dual tips. Sounded awesome but the drone on the highway was unbearable.

Maybe having an X pipe installed would help with the drone. I have an X pipe on my 95 and I am thinking of putting on the S/S Magnaflows on but I also don't want much drone.
This is where the subjective part comes in I guess. I heard one guy say that these Corvette Central Magnaflows were great, but who knows how much drone he personally considers to be too much? At $250 a pair, I think I'll give it a shot. The worse that can happen is that I'll hate it, sell them, and gain an appreciation for my stock mufflers.
I have snooped through these exhaust posts before. And when I bought my 96, it just had the muffler delete on it. And I think it sounds great! I guess ive never really paid attention to what other systemssound like, but for the money dont understand spending the big bucks for the other systems.
I've had muff. deletes on two LT cars and for the money it can't be beat. It's not too loud while crusing or driving slow around town, but sounds awesome at WOT. I had an exhaust shop do my 96 for $125. It sounds very similar to the x-pipe/powerstick lt194 has a few posts earlier. The stock resonator looks similar inside to the powersticks which is probably why the sounds are almost the same.

Haha, thanks for the reference . Sounds amazing doesn't it?
I have a 84 with B&B cat back. It has a very loud drone at twenty or slower and is quiet at 70. I don't know anything about LT-1s but I think it's the best thing I ever did for my car now and wish it was louder. Really, it grew on me, I will probably get a high performance converter for it when I get a Renegade at the end of July and it will be great
to see what it sounds like then!
When I bought my 94 coupe it had Flowmasters on it. They really were not all that loud...but it was at cruising speed..where they drove me crazy with the drone. So what I did, was replaced them with a chambered exhaust system from Corvette Central, and what a difference it made. I have a nice sound at idle...very aggressive at WOT, a little burble when backing off...and best of all NO more drone at cruising. This system is similar in design and sound to the side exhaust system on the C2's
Since you always get compliments, then I gotta toss out what bugs me everytime I see your pics. Your tips are both crooked and I can't stand it.... I'd have done a degreed cheat cut if necessary to make them straight. Everytime I walked up to the car it would drive me nuts.
To the OP, probaby the best sounding LT1 car I ever heard was this T/A with an SLP loudmouth I...not II. I don't think they make setups for vette's though. Would have to be custom.

That's the system I originally wanted, then I found out it necks down to smaller than 2.25" in those bends...

I intentionally set it that way cause when you look at it from a bird's eye view, it looks really cool. You're the first person to say it looks bad haha . I guess to each his own
