Default 96 LT4 4.10 Rear End Final Preperations for Install PART 2

Alright guys, I've got all the parts(I think) and just wanna make sure I've got everything in line for this 4.10 swap. I'm about to undertake this task but wanna make sure that I've got everything in line before I get in the middle of this and find out some small details that I never thought about.

Supplies on hand:
-P5007043(Part # for mopar gears...Viper gear)
-Corvette Axle 84-96 (Dana 3012K 1 112.0044): Deluxe InstallationKit - Corvette Axle 84-96
-POSI SERVICE PARTS Cluth Pack Part #SP 707018X(Drivetrain Specialists)
-4 oz bottle of GM rear end positraction additive
-2 quarts of BFM rear end gear oil

Again, this is a LT4 so its a 6 speed with a 3.45 factory. First off and foremost, am I missing any parts? Obviously, everyone is saying from previous posts that since its a 6 speed, that the only thing that will be off is the speedometer which is to be fixed by reprogramming the PCM? I'm still concerned and would think the VSS plastic gear would have to be cheanged to match the new rear end ration and tire size but I am getting mixed answers. Can anyone clarify this or advise me anything else I may need?

P.S...I hope you like the 4.10's more then I do, I wish I had 3.73 instead..I am tired or shifting that much ! Wakes the car up tho tell you that !

Alright, well that seems to be the word on the streets as far as the tune to get correct speed. I know I did my 78(of course no PCM) and I had to change the gear in the VSS. Yea, on my 78 I went from the factory which was like a 3.11 or so to the 3.73...and let me tell you, its like an entirely different car from what it use to be. As far as driveability, its not a daily driver so I wont have to worry about the continuous shifting...

Well I had originally thought about it but then decided that knowing my luck, I'd screw something up royally so I have acquired all the parts(I think) and am putting the torture in someone elses hands so if theres a mishap, its outta my hands...

You can correct the speedo two ways: Programming or by changing the plastic gears. Here's why people don't change the gears....of all the gear combinations that GM has available, none of them work with the 4.10s. With all of them the speedo will be off. Years ago, a couple aftermarket suppliers made/offered the custom VSS gear that was needed (LPE was one of them for instance). However the gear was $80...if it was still available I bet it would be over $100 today.

So there you have it. If you can find the aftermarket VSS gear and want to pay for it, you can swap the VSS gear. Programming is the quickest and easiest.

There are no plastic speedo gears to change on a 4l60E trans.
Changing them is not an optional process. They don't exist.

Wise decision. This project should be tackled by someone who has past experience in setting up gears. It would not be worth it to buy the tools and indicators for a 1 time setup not to mention the experience factor.

Since I changed to the 4:10 many times I drive my car as a 3 speed. Start off in 2nd to 4th and into 6th. This works well on level ground.

Good thing he has a 6-speed where it is, or at least was, an option

I might have to try that combo out...I know there wasnt much of a 1st gear to begin with...From what I've heard with 4.10's, 1st gear doesnt even exist! I'm stoked to see how much more ballsy it is...

Matt,
I bought the gears from Chrysler, the clutches from drivetrainspecialists and the install/rebuild kit from Raetech. I believe the new gears use a crush sleeve. I am unsure about the pinion yokes. That might be a good question for starting another forum unless someone chimes in on an old post? For what its worth, I have listed all part numbers and who I ordered from in my initial post if you decide to go this route...
