Default Pulling the trigger on sidepipes- are these the right ones

I have a 1980 manual trans./engine rebuild and I think I am finally going to make the switch to sidepipes. I have been looking around and found this deal on ebay. Has anyone else made this same purchase and would this be everything I would need? My mechanic will be doing the install. Contains: OBX Racing Sports Stainless Steel Exhaust Manifold Headers . Item is brand new and still sealed in box. Includes all gaskets and hardware necessary for the install. Also comes with a lifetime warranty from manufacturer defects. Dyno proven to increase horsepower. $699.00!
Many thanks...rs

They should be fine, where are they made? Most sidepipe mfgs. don't usually make claims to increase horsepower unless they are comparing to other sideoipe brands. I would look at adding covers as well. What guarantee is offered on them.

i would say 60/40- looks over performance...runs pretty strong now(about 375 hp) but any added hp would be nice..
Lifetime warranty from manufacturer defects offered. From the recent posts that i have read, most people who have put sidepipes on usually are pretty happy with them. My car is not a daily driver but i do drive it several times a week. I just love the look of sidepipes but don't want to hinder the performance of my car.

Do a search, I think you will find the OBX sidepipe headers are made in China. I do everything I can to NOT buy anything made in China (which gets harder and harder every year). Some people don't mind buying made in China parts, but I try to keep my money right here in the U.S. whenever possible. Here is a link to CUSTOM IMAGE as he too offers headers just like you want, but they are made in the U.S. I believe he has a sale going on right now too.

Very good point, though China has all of our money anyway but that's another topic .

One thing to keep in mind, the OBX header/sidepipes don't come with baffles where the XS-power does, may not be what you want but at least they are included.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Custom Image side pipes are also made in China. Just repackaged.

Not correct. OBX header/sidepipes do come with baffles installed.

My advice? Buff and polish the weld before installation. Just use buffing compound plus a Dremel or a drill attached wheel. Welds will come out as shiney and remain so.

Pics of my OBX sidepipes installed. Fit great. Look great. Good price. Remember to polish the welds. Takes less than one hour. You will be pleased.

Incorrect. I asked Josh directly and he confirmed in his thread that they are made in the USA, not China like the OBX ones. Probably why they cost a little more, but I will pay a little more to keep my money here.

Plus, he is a supporting vendor on the Forum too.

Josh sells XS-Power headers and side pipes. Type XS-Power and China into your search browser and see what you find.

For Josh: What is the United States address where your XS-Power headers are manufactured? Not your sales address but the location where the pipes are welded and formed?

Interesting thread...

Clubby99, what do they sound like. I once had '69 style ones on my vert and they were just too loud. I also had this horrible hollow drone from 55 - 70 mph so I sold them and went with duals with Ultraflows.

Thanks for the correction. The eBay add said 4 piece which makes it sound like (2) headers (2) sidepipes but didn't mention baffles so I stand corrected. With that being said, what style baffle are in the OBX pipes? glass pack style like the Hooker pipes or a reverse flow?

Loud but a nice rumble. I still like the sound after 3 months.

If too loud, you can swap the mufflers with any that fit in Hooker Headers side pipes.

Down side of OBX is that there is no hardware to mount the side pipes. I used the hardware that mounts Hooker Header sidepipes, sold at the usual sources.

I have a set of sidepipes from xs power and like them very much. The only thing I did not like about them was the muffler or baffle or what ever you want to call it that was welded into the tubes. I discovered they had an inch and a quarter diameter exhaust flow going through them. I ground them out and replaced them with much sounding and better flowing baffles. These pipes cost half of what hooker was charging and they are all stainless, not half ceramic coated with stainless tubes. I did think they were American made however and am a little bummed to discover that they are likely Chinese!!!

Here is proof that XS-Power side pipes are Chinese. Just because a vendor repackages an item and slaps an American flag decal on it does not make it America. For months, we all read the same thing. Buy American. Don't but Chinese junk. Buy from this supporting vendor. Actual gushing. Many from people who don't even own side pipes.

thx for all the input...i think i hit a nerve with the OBX brand. I will call and speak to josh at XS-power. last question- what if i buy a header/sidepipe setup that is used but good condition- any downside to used over new other than some miles being put on them. would the fitting still be as good the 2nd time used?
thx for all the CF help...rs
