but from reading your posts, I assume you timed the cam in and set your distributor in - now did you time it then? Then you took the distributor out to prime the engine and ploped the dizzy back in?? Your timing won't even be close. If it was me, I'd review the steps to set up static timing for a first time start, reprime the motor set the static timing up as per your instructions and then try to fire it up again.
With incorrect timing, it will cough and backfire. I did not hear any combustion at all. I have seen this when the valves are over adjusted. This assumes you have fuel and spark.

Happened to me on my ole '80 after a cam install a few years back, sounded just like in your video....had the valves over tightened. Boy was I red-faced when my bud came over, re-adjusted the valves, and she fired right up.
Sorry for the delay. 2 weekends ago, I was sick with the flu and the this past weekend two of the kids had sinus surgerys. Just haven't had the time. maybe one night this week I can get a chance to check the TDC and inital timing. I hope. Or maybe this Sunday. I hope.
I'm sure that if I had a few minutes, I could google something out there on adjusting the valves, but does anyone have a link or document that these use for someone that has never done it before? Would like to read up on it in case I need to check it.
So I got a compression tester and got it into #3 and found that the distributor was reinstalled backwards. Couldn't fit it into #1 because of the header. I got it flipped around, but the kids were asleep, so I couldn't try it yet.
it sounds like the timing is off to me. have a buddy crank the engine while you rotate the distributor slowly one way. listen to the engine you should be able to tell if your goin the right way or not. if it doesnt crank or sounds like its draggin worse rotate the opposite direction. DO NOT STAND OVER THE CARB as it can and prob will backfire thru it until you get the right timing.
Tell your buddy who is starting the car with his ears right by the sidepipe outlet to cover his ears in case of backfire. Ask my buddy how I know . . .

Soon......
Knock the guts out of a spark plug, screw in an air fitting and solder or braze it. Can use it later to do oil seals.
100 water balloons at the dollar store for a buck.
Finger tight into #1 and when the balloon starts to fill, you are coming up on #1 firing position, continue by watching the damper marks and set rotor to 10° to start.
There was some grey/white smoke coking from the passenger side so I shut it down.
2nd try
There was more smoke from the passenger side. Shut her down again while trying to find the source.
When I tried starting her up the third time, I started to see a lot of the grey/white smoke while cranking. So I shut it down again.
I have not been able to tell where the smoke is coming from yet.

How long did you let it run for?
Maybe it's just oil or something that managed to get into the cylinders or exhaust during assembly?
White/gray could either be running rich, oil etc in that side of the exhaust or possibly coolant.
What did it smell like?
NOW I see the vids!
I thought the smoke was coming from the exhaust!
You're probably just burning crap off the motor/exhaust.
Any oil or grease on the pipes will smoke and stink for a while.
As long as you're not dripping anything on the floor and you're not losing coolant, (or have anything melting against the exhaust) break in that cam!
LET IT RUN!!!!!!! every car smokes after sitting for a season or coming off a rebuild....as stated, your only going to do more harm by shutting it off....Eyeball the oil pressure and temp, bring the revs up and let things seat properly.
I guess that my big concern was seeing a bunch of smoke coming up on the passenger side of the engine while cranking. It didn't catch but it was smoking. I am going to try to to see where it is coming from this Saturday.
