C6 Corvette ZR1 & Z06General info about GM’s Corvette Supercar, LS9 Corvette Technical Info, Performance Upgrades, Suspension Setup for Street or Track
Im upgrading my C6Z's half shafts with C5 units before I hit the track. Im looking for an install proceedure complete with torque specs if anyone can help???
Remove wheels, remove axle nut. Remove upper control arm mounts to allow you to swing it out to get axle out. Pop Axle out.
Install c5, torque axle nut to 140 ftlbs with red locktite. Put upper control arm back on, making sure washers in place, and torque to 48ftlbs, reinstall wheel. Very very straight forward.
New axle nuts should be used. On top of putting Loctite I used the old nut after the new one as a "lock nut" so to speak. Too many stories of those nuts coming loose.
Whatever is easier for you. Just need enough play to swing the hub out to get the axle out. I've never taken the ball joint off, but you could do it that way if that is easier for you.
C5 axles are stronger than c6 axles. Well atleast 06-08 axles, the later axles seem to be decent. I know several people that have gone mid 9s to mid 8s on c5 axles. Running them on my 1000+ car on 345 drag radials and no issues.
If you can change your own oil you can do this in about 1.5 hrs per side taking your time. It's not bad at all. Good luck.
Very easy to do. Just did one myself on my car. I chose to get original C5 axle from the dealer, only because I trust it more than aftermarket. Personal choice there.
