Default Easy xm antenna relocation for 05 models!

I hope this isn't old news but i heard many guys with many wild ways of relocating this antenna. I found a great solution!

Tools:

1" hole bit
Electrical Tape
Small Drill bit
Screw driver

Time:

10 Mins

Functionality:

Heres a vid. See for yourself

Old halo:

Removing the antenna is easy as its only on there with sticky tape I used a cloth and a flathead but you can see that i ripped through the cloth a little here on the side.

Antenna:

So this thing is way to big to mount any where as it is so i found 5 screws on the back and took them out..

What i found:
So to my disbelief this is what i found!

It should fit perfectly in here:

The original hole for the wires is a LITTLE small but not much. I used the 1" bit to open it up and i had great sucess...

Taped the hole so i wouldn't make a mess.

Said and done:

Being a previous owner of an 08 Model i feel like I'm right back at home in my 05 now at about $15k less money!

I dont quite get where you ended up putting it. Is it the underside of a new halo?

Its actually just under the halo the hole that I am showing is the one in the b-pillar (frame portion) that the xm wires go through it's under the black plastic cover trim that you'll have to take off to do the swap, once you disassemble you can't miss the hole

I very highly recommend Cleveland pick and pull on eBay I called them paid over phone on saturday and had the halo shipped to my Dallas home by tuesday. Like new condition minus one (well informed about) light scratch that will easily buff out

Good write up. I also am not clear exactly how the antenna is getting a unobstructed signal. I did the halo switcheroo about a year ago but have never hooked a antenna back up.

I would say the signal is about 70% in that spot. It does loose signal from time to time even with clear sky's but it was super easy and the signal does not drop often... I'm happy with it

Bringing up an old thread. I plan on doing this soon. My buddy just installed a carbon halo on his Z06, I'm taking his old black halo and doing this.
Thanks.
