How to Fix a Noisy Removable Top on a C6 Corvette Coupe
i found this today while browsing around on youtube and found it extremely useful. probably going to work on the roof this weekend to help prevent some of the random creaks where it sounds like the roof is going to cave in
How to Fix a Noisy Removable Top on a C6 Corvette Coupe -
it's a start, but not a cure all. There are many other things that may have to be done to fully quiet a noisy top.
1) E-Clip inserted on the early style of front latch rollers
2) Rear latch J-hook adjustment
3) Rear locator adjustments
4) Assure all male posts are tightened.
5) Put O-rings on posts
6) Put heat shrink wrap over male posts
7) Lubricate the front latches striker area well or install soft velcro where the roller makes contact
8) lubricate the weatherstripping rubber and other sections as per the video

9) A drop of sewing machine or gun oil on the roller axles.
At least that works for me.

Can someone post a pic of the o rings on the pins and what size works best? I assume you can buy them at Home depot?
I don't know what size this is but if you just get an assortment of small one's there will be one that fits. It doesn't have to be an exact size. Just small enough to go over the pin with a bit of a stretch. Yes, Home Depot or Lowes or any hardware store. I put these on over 4 years ago and have not heard another sound since.
The large one should be on there from the factory. I added the smaller one.

Did all of these except #1(?) & #6 just now.
#2 - Needed 2 turns
#4 - one post slightly loose
I'll let you all know if the rattle goes away

Keep us posted, so others can see what did work for you.
BTW, #1 is a 5/32" or 3/16" E-Clip inserted on the side of the roller on the older style front latch. New latches do not have a roller.
The only fix I did was the grommet/plastic ring, and the creaking noise went away immediately! Over 2 years I suffered through that crap and the fix took less than $2 and 5 minutes
About a week ago a creaking sound started coming from the front area of the roof (13'GS coupe), it went away for a drive or two and then came back. Put two additional O-Rings on the front post and tightened the rear latch one turn. Took a 130 mile ride today and had no noise at all. The top is tight and quiet. Thanks for the tips on fixing the noise guys.
I know this is an old thread but my 05 Corvette was doing the snap, crackle, and pop thing on the transparent top. I installed the 5/32 e-clip in the roller and the problem was solved. It was so easy and only $1.44 at Lowes. I also did the shrink wrap and lubed the roller area but I firmly believe the fix was primarily from installing the 5/32 e-clip. This car was really getting bad and now it's quiet as brand new. I know there have been many posts about this but I just ran across this today and thought I would give the e-clip a try and I was totally amazed it worked! Thank you everyone for the tips.

All of those suggestions work ok, but there is no, good, long term solution if you want a quiet top, and you still want to take the top off when the weather is nice. I've done everything and it still requires lubrication which is a pain in the butt when you take off the top and stow it as you have to be super careful not to get it on your clothes or the carpet in the car. Next time I will be trying the dry lubrication spray to see if that is a workable option.

The only thing that actually worked for me was to unscrew the machine screw that secures the front latch handle to the roof, lube up all of the friction surfaces on the latch handle including the screw, and then torquing everything back together. No need to remove the roof. IIRC, a T40 torx bit was required. Used a bit of Teflon tape on the screw so it wouldn't come loose - there might have been some blue Loctite on it from the factory install. Did both sides, of course. It's been dead silent now since I did that, including a 4600 mile road trip where the top was on and off quite a few times, and where there was some pretty rough road surfaces.
