So earlier this year I blew a headgasket and pulled the heads and replaced them. When I fired it up later it showed signs of blue smoke when running. I didn't even bother backing it out the shop. I knew it was going to take pulling the engine out. Anyway my back problems prevented me from jumping on it for a awhile, then the wife spent days in hospital after losing so much blood. Her little sister died and that throw us for a loop. Anyway one hurdle after another kinda took it's toll. But happy days are here again. Because my 2 Sons showed up at the shop and pulled the engine for me! Once I finish rebuilding the engine they will return to install it!
I knew there must of been a problem b/c we haven't heard from you for a while. Glad the white beast is going back together and your wife is on the mend. Sorry about her kid sister. Good thing the boys were able to help....sometimes things do work out.....best of luck with all and get that thing back on the road.

sorry for life's tribulations but glad to hear from you again...look forward to seeing one of my favorite C5's back on the road...
Always nice to hear good news, family is the best comfort.
I bought my vette thinking that with the support available , no matter how old it got, I would be able to fix and enjoy the car. I forgot that I had myself gotten old, with a bad back, and kind of skipped the part about the cars I used to work on were simple , nothing close to computerized, and I did only the most simple maintenance.
I now need to fold myself into a shape where I can work ignition problems under the dash, once I get a clear understanding of what I broke . Trying to avoid the flatbed of shame is my new goal. Besides avoiding back pain, that is.
I would be interested in how your repair goes.

Sorry to hear about all the family and health problems. Hope things get better for you. And best of luck getting the engine back in running order and the car back on the road.
Crazy thing I found....Piston skirts have virtually no wear! Oil control rings are worn down to the expander spring. Since cylinders have original cross hatching and pistons are good, I'm just re ringing it and replacing rod journal bearings. The Rod bearings are have minimal wear and no scaring at all. Basically the engine is top notch and just needed to have rings replaced. The prudent thing I'm doing will be installing new cam chain and oil pump.
I'm shocked at the condition of it, yet very pleased with the prospects of having a fresh engine.

Rick, May your life and Vette have smooth sailing from this day forward! One question I see the drive train still in the car, did your sons pull the engine from the top? I though the whole engine/drivetrain had to be dropped from the bottom.
