Wouldn't this engine be perfect for the Grand Sport?
Chevy revealed the new LT376/535 at a pre-SEMA conference. I was thinking, wouldn't this engine be great in the new Grand Sport? It makes 70 more horsepower over a standard LT1 and would give the GS a helping hand on the top end.
The engine is $13k, but the good news is that Chevy Performance sells the heads/cam kit used in this engine, which means the whole engine wouldn't need to be replaced for 535 HP, and it probably won't be super expensive for just the kit (I'm guessing labor will be a good chunk, but combine the kit with bolt ons and you would have a hell of a car).

That is impressive for those that want to up the power in their LT1 with GM parts!
Thanks for the Heads Up.
Found this info in the GM Press Release:
Chevrolet Performance engineers have wasted no time digging into the new LT engine family to mine more power - and they've delivered it in the LT376/535. It builds on the technologies and capability of the LT1 6.2L offered in the Corvette Stingray and Camaro SS. The result is an engine with 75 more horsepower than its LT1 predecessor.
The LT376/535 is architecturally similar to the LT1 and LS family of small-block engines, but with a unique block casting, cylinder head design, oiling system, and more. It retains the advanced technologies of the LT1, including Direct Injection to support an advanced combustion system to create a more than capable engine for your project. By adding CNC-ported heads and our high-lift LT1 Hot Cam the LT376/535 delivers more naturally aspirated horsepower than its predecessors.
Some Specs:
Hydraulic roller Cam (billet steel)
0.577” intake / 0.577” exhaust
Duration at .050:
228° intake/ 248° exhaust
Cast aluminum heads; CNC-ported with 58cc chambers
11.5:1 Compression
Premium Fuel
Max RPM 6600
really? the Z06 guys keep invading the Stingray/GS threads, if we wanted a Z06, we would have got one. lets keep the GS Vs. Z06 off this thread, there is a post for that
Can't say I'm too impressed.
The 535hp is great, but only 470lbs.
OTOH, to answer your question as an engine for the GS, I think it would pretty darn perfect if the car is being tracked.
I noticed that too, but I will say the numbers for this motor are pretty close to the LS7 (more power, but about 10 less lb ft of torque).

Not sure honestly. I know the Silverado uses a variant of the LT1 (the 6.2 one at least), but I'm not sure on compatibility.

The Stingray, sure, 500 would be great. The Z06? I wouldn't say so. Power is nothing if you can't put it down and the Z06 puts the power down well (with warm tires), but it's close to the limit.

The heads/cam kit from GM (the one used in this engine) is fairly cheap iirc.

As a buyer that makes sense. But, IMHO, this delay in introducing a higher HP base engine is by design. As GM, the seller, they want to have something in the bag for next year to sell cars to guys with 2014 C7s. The mid-engine whatever won't be out for a while, probably 2019. So GM comes out with a higher HP Z51 and GS or just GS and the mags give them all sorts of free coverage, buyers go nuts to have the latest and GM sells more cars in MY 2018.
I think GM is out to beat the sales record of the C5. To do that they need strategy to keep interest up on the C7.
