Default 2017 secondary radiator smaller than prior GMPP secondary radiator?

A friend of mine saw the 2017 Z06 on it's side display at SEMA. He previously installed one of the original GMPP secondary radiators, part no. 84037858 on his 2016.

He stated the 2017 secondary radiator which comes installed from the factory is smaller than his. The 2017 secondary radiator has a different part no, 84201727. Also, this new part number supercedes the original part number.

Anybody have a means of confirming by measuring or any knowledge of a change?

My neighbor will have his 2017 in two weeks and I can compare to mine.

Cool. My friend said he'd measure his for comparison to my 2017 but he's 1,500 miles from me and often gets distracted.....

The part number difference may be because the GMPP Part number is for a kit that includes the radiator while the part number for the unit installed in the 17 cars may only be for the radiator itself.

Part numbers change all the time even if the design of the part hasn't changed. I was told this is a result of GM using a different supplier for the part.

Sorry guys but I screwed up. My friend says his 2016 OEM oil cooler looks smaller than the 2017, not the secondary radiator. FWIW, my friend owns a very respectable race shop, Mike Levitas/TPC Racing. He has a good eye for minute detail and I don't discount his observation. He thinks they might have changed the oil cooler to get water temp quicker and maintain the temp for emissions. I'll get measurements of his and compare to mine.

FWIW, I'm pretty well versed in the practice of changing part numbers even though the parts are identical but I do appreciate the input.

Not sure why GM didn't care to share the details of all the little changes. Even Tadge limited his answer on 2017 updates to supercharger talk. Couple of weeks back there was a 2017 and 2015 M7 Z06 at the track running same laptimes and 2017 was running much Lower temps overall. Water was 215F vs 245F on 2015. I am sure 2015 would have ran much cooler if it had the secondary radiator but 30F difference can't be from just secondary radiator alone.

Is this what the oil cooler looks like on 2017 cars by any chance? This is the oil cooler from the 2017 ZL1 and it definitely looks larger.

^ ZL1, Interesting, so GM decided it wasn't a good idea to mount the oil cooler inches from the cat as they do on the most capable track car!

Rick, There is a different style floating around on a GM product as I've seen photos of its Shaped more like a diamond than a brick. I have seen the 17 cooler and it appears identical the 15 and 16 Z's.

We have a 2016 BMW X1 apart in the shop. There 2 of these type coolers on the car. The Germans seem to think they work.

Happy Thanksgiving guys

You're not comparing apples to apples with a ZL1. The ZL1 is a wet sump and it looks like that completely changes the oil cooler plumbing and location.

I was at SEMA as well. The display he spoke of is the very same one from last year. They may have addressed the new part number, but it was still a much older part that was on the car so I wouldn't use it's measurements as something to count on being up to date and correct for present purposes.

Someone just needs to get a 2017 up on a lift and snap a few pic. Maybe they added some heat shields, improved the ducting to the radiators, etc.

Ask and you may receive! Heres a 2017 oil\water cooler on a new Z06. As I see nothing has changed same cooler, same layout and no shields. Come on GM we would all pay another $ 50.00 for some radiation blockers!

Thanks Joel.

I didn't think about that. I completely forgot the ZL1 has a wet sump LT4. In that case, does anyone else think the CTS-V which also has the wet sump LT4 iirc also has the larger oil cooler?

The new taller supercharger lid must play a roll?

Driving style between the two drivers even running similar lap times could play a role.

The part number, 12659714, on the 2016 Z06 oil cooler in the discussion is the same as the one pictured by Maddog from his 2017.

Makes me think Levitas was wrong and it's the same.

Question, does anyone know if can the cat be wrapped in some type of heat shielding material without hurting or overheating the cat?
