So i just purchased an 09 3lt from an auction and they do not have any keys with the car. I know i can take the tumbler out of the hatch and take it to my locksmith and they can cut the insert key for it without a problem...
Now for the question, looking at directions on programming the FOB you have to unlock the hatch 5 times... etc.
So if i go to the locksmith and get the key cut and can unlock the hatch, without an original FOB can i program the new FOBs to the car?
I am trying to not have to tow the car to the dealership and have them charge me an arm and a leg to do it

Your fob doesn't have the hidden key inserted in the end? All fobs should have the key and that's the only ones that come with the car, one in each fob. There should be a push button to release it.

Reason: Changed picture for clarity.
We need clarification....do you mean that the car came with no fob or no metal key...and as shown above, was there a metal key in the fob if you have a fob? If there is no metal key then probably best to have a dealer cut one from the VIN and proof of ownership, then buy fobs and program them yourself using these instructions:

My bad, I misread your original post as "with" an original fob. I think you will need to have the dealer cut you a key from the vin. It may be tricky to get a new fob with key cut without an original. You may end up going the expensive way of having a dealer get a fob and cut the key for you. I'm not sure where to start looking for a fob with an uncut key except the dealer.
You bought a 09 Vette at a auction and it had no keys? You didn't start it or see if it would run or had other problems? You are a brave soul? How many miles? Condition? Price?

Another thing I didn't consider. Look in the slot inside the glove box door to the left and see if there's a fob in that slot. Otherwise, I don't see how you start the car.

For the price that i got it for and it is a complete car so even if it does not run i am not worried.
The auction has it listed that it has no keys, the car is being shipped should have it next week so at that point i will check, but they are pretty good about checking whether it truly has keys or not
So, i am assuming that i have no FOB or emergency key. That is why i curious whether i can program a new FOB if i have just the "key" made by putting it into programming mode and inserting the FOB in the glovebox slot.
I know i can get the key cut, whether it be from the dealer or a locksmith, i just dont want to have to tow the car to the dealer to have them program the FOB
No reason to tow it to a dealership....the metal key can be cut from the VIN by them ...you then buy fobs and program them yourself. Fobs can be bought from dealer, online such as Cultrag or Ebay. It will be interesting to see how they load and unload the car on the truck if it cannot be started.
I just got a 07 with one fob and no key, got a second fob off eBay for $65 but I still need the key to program the new fob. Dealer said they can run the vin # for $30 and cut a key they supply for a additional $9 would need proff of ownership and photo ID. Since they are going to run the vin I will ask them also if they can provide a maintenance history on the vette.

Same question for you, are you saying you have a fob with the key not included inside the fob as in the pictures I posted above? I have never seen a fob without the key inside.
This IS the key for the C6, there are no loose keys.

Reason: Corrected picture for C6
Note that there are two distinct fobs you can order: "1" and "2". These correspond to the driver number preset buttons on the driver door.
If you have a fob but no emergency entry key, you would also want to buy a new lock cylinder for the trunk access for another $245. It comes with two new keys that will fit into the new fobs. Unless you know exactly what you're doing, a new cylinder will require installation at your dealer.

Actually,this is a C7 key and fob.
The early C6s came with a fob and separate key. Both early and late C6 fobs are interchangeable with each other, but the key blanks are not. The C6 and C7 fobs and keys are not interchangeable.

I used that picture for reference as to where the key came from. The other picture in my post was what his 09 should look like. Here is a better picture. I'm just trying to determine if the owner's know that the key is inside the fob on the C6's in question.

For 05-07 this is what the fob and key looks like.
You bought a Corvette, from an auction, with no key, do not know if it runs or not, and haven't touched the car???????????????????????????????
I hope you get it when they say you will, and I hope it runs and drives, unless you paid a silly amount of money, I would be worried. Good luck.
Lets put it this way
For what paid, i could buy a brand new create engine from GM plus a 6spd transmission also from GM, and still be about 6k under what these cars are selling for on the retail market and here on the forum.
Plus, these LS engines are not all that problematic engines, and it is a SUPER clean car with 50k on the ODO, which for a car that is 8 years old is nothing.
So yes i got a great deal, and i have to figure out how to get a set of keys for it, and replace a headlight,
On the surface it might seem like a lot of risk but when you dig into it the reward way out weights the risk
