Technically speaking, the base model -- or more precisely the narrow body model -- has a cleaner aerodynamic shape with a lower Cd drag coefficient. All the scoops and bulges on the wide body exact a price in terms of air resistance, and ultimately fuel economy. True, they do help keep things stable at 130+mph, but honestly guys when was the last time your C6 saw those speeds?
Had an 05 coupe...absolutely loved it, 400 hp and 4 speed auto, with the big steering wheel. Just wanted more hp. I DO miss my removable top also. Lost all of my pics of it too.
No complaints here with my base. All I wanted was an ls3/6m with low miles and one that didn't weigh a ton with a bunch of ****(options) I didn't need. Lol
All I wanted was a vette to slap some boost on it and some tire/suspension and go have some fun with it.
Only Corvette guys call them base models. To everyone else, they are Corvettes. The general public can't tell the real difference other than perhaps the gills on the side.
This is SO true. Personal experience: Chevy had a C7 at Corvette Coral at Road America in 2012 before I owned a Vette. I recall looking at it and thinking it doesn't look different from other Vettes. WHAT?!
So I bought this one in 2014 and of course I can now see any difference from one Vette to another.
And wonder how I couldn't before I became a Vette guy.

Reason: clarify

As a regular reader of the C6 Forum I see Grand Sport this and GS that. When I bought my Vette back in '15 I could get a 2010 2LT GS coupe for the same price as a base 3LT Vert. For me it was a no brainer. I'll take a Vert over a coupe any day. So I ask; Where is the love for the base model?
The love is definitely here for the Base Model! We love our 2007 Z51 3LT coupe!
I have a 2008 base coupe, and really like it. I much prefer a coupe over a vert. When I want a vert, I simple remove the targa top. Another reason I wouldn't have a vert is because I sunburn easily, and I would rarely have the top down.
I meant I am now aware of any and all tiny differences.
Or huge one like a C6 to C7. Will go edit post.
I knew Corvettes since I was a little boy when the C1s came out -- although I didn't know every little change within a generation, and still don't.
But when the post '72s through all C4s were out I totally lost interest in Vettes. Lumpy, bland, nondescript, not unique-looking from any angle as they always were before.
C5s were a big improvement, but the C6s were a huge leap forward in sexiness and the "This is a Corvette" look from any angle.
