Had it happen to a BMW 540i with an intake once and wasn't so lucky. Luckily the insurance company covered the motor under comprehensive as "an act of god" as they explained it. Luckily as far as the electronics go fresh water flooding is usually recoverable not the same with salt water. Glad to hear it all worked out.
Surprisingly water got into my cabin aswell... how in gods name I have no idea, wasn't high enough water to get through the bottom of the door, somehow the water came through beneath the car
Seriously? Your car is only about 4" off the ground, and you're wondering how water got into your cabin if you drove through 8-9" of rain? Do you math?
You were lucky. Had a friend here, Capt Nemo, destroy his LS3 in 3 in of water on Hwy 35 in Tx. He had a Vararam also. Blew a 3 inch hole in his block.
I know, or have seen the aftermath of V-ram and Houston rain. That's a statement and question. Answer: no thanks.
yup, had an '04z that had a vararam get totaled here in Houston in the memorial day floods of 2015. Sadly, after that one got totaled I had another '04z get totaled in the floods 2 days before Memorial day last year.
Needless to say, the GS that replaced that last one will be parked on high ground over Memorial day weekend this year...

You were lucky. Son lives in S Tampa, FL. When it rains in FL, it really pours and that area is known for flooding streets. He was sitting at a red light, first car, and a truck went thru the intersection and a wave splashed up the front of his M5 BMW with add ons including CAI and his engine hydrolocked and was ruined. Insurance replaced it for mucho bucks.
haha, nothing I could do in either instance. Even more amazing, I moved to the other side of town before the 2nd flood, and then THAT area got hit hard. I'm thinking about opening a business where municipalities that are drought ridden can hire me to visit them over Memorial day, bringing the floods with me.
Biggest issue is that, though my rates cannot legally increase and Geico cannot drop me for these comprehensive claims, I worry about someone else hitting me and Geico using that as an excuse to drop me. From a quick search my insurance rate would change from ~100/mo to ~280/mo thanks to those 2 total loss claims on my record...
NotLaw, you have a good sense of humor and don't take offense easily. I've seen both the Houston and Florida rains up close and personal. (as well as those "dry washes" in AZ---ha! there's a reason you see these silly bridges in the desert over dry sand---because it don't STAY dry when it rains!). None of these places are funny at all when the sky really opens up (just ask the folks in posh River Oaks).
Had this happen to my 300ZX years ago and hydrolocked the engine. Insurance company totaled the car and I ended up buying it back from them and rebuilt the engine. Expensive lesion. No wonder why Vette owners don't drive their cars in the rain LOL
