So I traded a boat for the 89 a couple of years ago. Only drove it a few hundred miles as it needed tires. The crappy tires were loud and rough, not much fun. Performed basic maintenance such as headlight pucks, heater module and fluid changes, battery, alternator, plugs, wires etc. Patched the loud exhaust until I can replace it and cleaned it up a bit. Replaced the soft top which made it a bit better to drive and then got a hard top which made it much better to drive. It was still running rough but seemed to be getting better. Finally got new tires and alignment. So a couple of weeks ago I pulled it out of storage and have been driving it every other day. The more I drive it, the better it seems to be running, getting smoother. The more I drive it, the more fun I am having. Even during the recent heavy wind and rain this car is fun and I see why so many guys drive them daily. Finally, I feel like I have a corvette!
I've been saying it for years: the more you drive these cars, the better they run.
I have repeated experience with my car running super smooth when it's driven regularly. When it sits for a week or more, it idles a bit rough, even when fully warmed. I can't explain it but it is real. These cars were meant to be driven. Enjoy your "new" car
If it continues to run a little rough or it gets worse check out the injectors. The original multech units slowly fail due to ethanol eating away the insulation. I almost sold my vert when local "experts" couldn't find a miss that would come and go. This forum steered me to the problem.
