Default FS or WTT - 1968 427-435 hp -4 speed Convertible

NOTE: Scroll far down in the thread to see car pics

**** After dealing with several family health issues over the last two years in addition to the loss of my Mother earlier this year, and also the fact that my Vette was trapped in the garage by a boat and a couple cars, things have finally settled down, and I'm able to turn my attention back to my car hobby (when I'm not coaching high school football or track, or working on what seems like a zillion work and home projects). ****

I've finally freed my Vette from the confines of the garage and have been driving it during the last few days. When I listed it previously, I was not able to find the time to actually get it out of the garage to allow test drives. That time has finally come.

So, this time around I can make a better effort to sell my car. It is a matching numbers '68 427-435 hp, 4-speed, 4.11 gears convertible, which I've owned for about ten years. I purchased in it's current condition. I have the original tank sticker for the car.

The car was built in August of 1968, the last month of '68 production, so it has upgrades that were implemented late in the model year in preparation for the '69 model year, such as strengthened frame, relocated seat back latches, and interior door panel handles (which were the common complaint issues with the early '68 models). The car has both a soft top (new) and hard top, and was a COPO special order vehicle due to the Saddle interior, which was not offered as a standard option until 1969. Since the Saddle interior was offered in 1969, I assume that is why it could be ordered late in the 1968 production year. The car was originally British Racing Green, but was stripped to glass and painted red about 14 years ago. Numbers freaks, please hold your tongues. I wanted a red car. LOL

The car currently has aftermarket valve covers, but I have the original covers. I also have the SS-woven plug wires and the transistor ignition distributor, which are not currently installed.

There is not a speck of rust on the frame.

I am asking $55,000 for my car. I would consider taking another car plus cash (or multiple vehicles) in trade, as I understand how it is not always easy to come up with a substantial amount of coconuts.

NADA indicates an average retail value of $78,500 for my car and a high retail value of $109,600. Low retail value is $42,000.

My car is nicer than an average quality car...no longer perfect, but very, very nice. Although the trip odometer and speedometer work, the main odometer has stopped working at 32K and change. I recently contacted the gentleman I bought the car from to refresh my memory, and he indicated that he had the original engine rebuilt and the original transmission disassembled and inspected at the same time. I have driven the car less than 2,000 miles since I purchased it. At 67 years old, my focus in life has somewhat changed. I have always started the car monthly and exercised the brakes.

I live In Concord, Ca, approximately 30 miles east of San Francisco.

Thanks for reading my posting.

Sorry but it was a Green car with Saddle interior? Such a pretty car to start with. My personal opinion is that Red is well overrated. But to each his/her own preferences. Either way it's still a stunning car the way it sits. Nothing against you but I sure hope someone buys it and puts the original color back on it. GLWYS. I have a buddy who has a super low mileage '67 'Vert 427 Tri-power, Aluminum head, M22, side pipe, Goodwood Green w/White Stinger hood stripe but his wife doesn't like that color so he repainted it Red and NEVER drives it. It just sits in his garage. And yes I've seen the build sheet for the aluminum head 427 L89 code for this car. He's had it for well over 30+ years........Such a waste-car needs to be seen and driven. Nothing wrong with painting a car the color one desires. It can always be re-painted another color by the next owner. After all, we're only temporary caretakers. Can't take it with you, unless you decide to be buried in your car.....and that would truly be a waste.

Just curious Jake on when you bought it? I remember the coast line picture on CL when I was looking for my C3.

Looking forward to the end of the rainy season and driving the car in the Spring, assuming I still own it. I may take it to our family home in Sonoma to use during the summer. Too many cars at home.

Did you ever sort out your concerns with the stamp on the engine pad? Just like you were concerned for the authenticity of the pad in the past you might want to post a picture of the pad today showing. Just a thought. Did you replace the original valve covers since you purchased the car? I don't remember Bow Tie Chevrolet on the big blocks in 1968. Do you have the original valve covers? All important facts when it comes to getting top dollar for your nice 1968.
Good luck with your sale.

That was another car I was looking at many years ago. I did not buy it. No issue with the numbers on this car...it was why I bought it. I have the original valve covers...on the shelf.

Excellent news. Look forward to seeing more pictures posted of this car including the engine pad stamps. I'll follow along awaiting more pictures.
Thank you and good luck with your sale.

...Thanks! Yep, hard not to love red Vettes! Classic color. I even painted my fuelie '64 roadster red 35 years ago....I may paint the '64 silver blue again (it's factory color) at some point, but I sure love it in red. Besides, I already have another FI '64 roadster in silver blue.....so I might as leave one of them red. LOL
