FWIW...Pushing the correct garage door opener button in the dark...
If you're like me, when you go to reach for the correct button of the three on your visor to open up your automatic garage door opener, you run your fingers along all three to select the one you've programmed especially at night when you can't see them. I chose the middle button and before pushing it, I have to make sure it's the middle and not one of the others on either side.
I'd been thinking of how to make it really easy to identify that middle button by touch so as to not have to guess and fumble around. Here's what I did:
I took the soft fuzzy side of a black Velcro strip and trimmed it to just cover that middle button. After cleaning the button, I stuck it on and pressed firmly to make sure it stays on. Now it's easy to find the right button in the dark as it sticks out a little and has a distinctive feel to it. And since I have the Jet black interior, it's barely visible.

I was using computers before you were born. I've created websites for my workplace and my place of worship. I pioneered the computer based grading system for my workplace as well. I was programming quizzes for my students 30 years ago on the old Commodore 64. I control my house heating system from any of my devices from anywhere I happen to be. I've been using smartphones and texting since they became available.
Don't believe the all of those commercials relegating those in their 60's and beyond to near helpless status when it comes to technology. Consider yourself fortunate to be standing on the shoulders of those who went before you and made all of this wonderful technology possible for you to enjoy instead of being arrogant and thinking you are the first generation to be proficient in the use of this technology.
One more thing...I'm 65, the age where you think we don't know much about technology. Have a great day.
Get with the 21st Century and equip your garage door openers with IOT and use Geo-Fencing on your cell phone. My garage door rises as I drive up. Don't need no stinkin' buttons!
I really don't like the button locations, as many times I have the sun visor down when driving home in the late afternoon. Bottom of the rear view mirror (to me) would be a better location.
I programmed mine to be the button on the far left. But my other option is I can open the door with my cell phone using my Garage Door App from anywhere.

That's a cool solution, but you forget that the typical Corvette owner is 63.8 years old and just learning about smartphones and texting, when they are not complaining about competition seats and how the ride is too stiff.
So, I think the Internet of Things is beyond them.

Or, if you only have one garage door to open - just program all 3 buttons to open that garage door!
(Note I'd love to use the other buttons to open the gate to my gated community but this particular gate doesn't allow that as you need to use a card access card. Luckily for me lately somebody I guess in a drunk stupor ran into the gate and so now there is no gate!).

Yep it partially replaced my TI59 programmable calculator and all the engineers had TI58's, without the card reader/witter on small magnet strips. If needed they borrowed mine!
Yep at 74 I program my own website for my part time Internet business and have been using a smart phone since they came out! Although I won't turn it on when driving the Vette to avoid distractions. Have to watch out for all those who use it when driving and are "compelled" to look and see who sent them a text! That's just long enough to be in my rear!
Yep us "old folk" aren't that bad- although Alexa has to find some facts when needed as memory does get rusty!

^^^^Ohio, late 70's, I was playing Othello on a VIC 20 when it took 10 minutes just to load the program from the tape drive!
A fellow teacher bought a TRS-80 in 1982, a year before CF member xxaarraa was born, and I borrowed it for a day and was captivated by it learning the commands and imagining the possibilities. Shortly after that our school purchased some Commodore 64 machines along with some PC juniors (remember those?) for student use.

Where did you get your statistics? You are way out of line. A 63 year old was around when PCs were first created. Why wouldn't they have kept up? I'm 67 and I sure did. I consider myself the norm, not an exception.
Nice idea. I have also been annoyed by that. A glow in the dark decal would prob work ok also. I only have one garage so the program all 3 would also work!
