Default Rear quarter panel upper vent question

I had seen 3 black z06 today. I see the upper vents are higher then the quarter panel. Is the upper scoop separate from the vent or is the upper scoop and vent one piece. ?

The inside of the rear vent is the same but Z06 have a high scope to pull in air. See below.

I see some z06 that have a raised higher scoop. And some that are level with the quarter panel. Is this a newer add on to the newer z06 , or aftermarket ? I just looked at google images. Looks like one piece ( vent and raised scoop ).

Flush with body panel is a Stingray, Z06 they are raised. Also note the side vents are wider on Z06, many other differences also. Grill, rear wing, fenders, taillights...

STINGRAY

Z06

Thanks, I'll take your word. I looked at 95 pages of the official z06 photos thread and I had seen a lot of z06 without the raised scoop. Maybe it was late and I wasn't seeing properly.

Z06 Convertibles don't have them, for what that's worth. So you'd think the coolers in the ragtop would have a harder time, but I haven't seen any evidence to support that yet.

It sounds like you're reluctant to really believe it!!

However, it's true!!!!!!

(EDITED: I see that while I was typing, Dave posted a good pic of the vert without any scoops/vents at all.)

ALL C7 Z06 COUPES come with scoops on the rear fenders that extend ABOVE the fender!!!

However, if you've been looking at pictures of C7 Z06 CONVERTIBLES, then you won't see any vents at all - the verts DO NOT come with vents!!!

So.....maybe the pictures of verts are what's been confusing you.

Otherwise, trust those of us that have seen dozens of C7 Z06 Vettes, and all the coupes have the raised scoop!!

.

Ok, I believe. I bought rear quarter panels for wide body conversion and the vents are level. Seller must have swapped them. Thanks. Just disappointed he swapped them.

Aha!!! Now I understand your concern!!

I don't remember any posts where a Z06 owner has swapped out the scoops that stick up for flat ones - but it could well have occurred.

I do remember a forum member that removed the Z06 scoops temporarily to reduce drag for a high speed one-mile event.

I also don't remember seeing any threads about convertible owners adding the scoops for cosmetic purposes, but that may well have happened.

Is there any chance that the wide-body fenders you got came off a convertible that somebody had done the scoop mod to?

.

I kept catching my wash mitt on mine so I cut it off with a sawzall.

He bought these parts to do the wide body conversion but never did it. He still had his stingray when I bought these parts. So he could have put them on his car.

I've only seen Stingrays get the wide body treatment as the Z06 is already wider than the Stingray from the factory.

Yes, his car was a stingray, he bought these parts for conversion. He never did conversion and sold the parts to me for my eventual conversion. I don't have money for z06 and I would have to wait a year and a half to afford a used GS. So I'm getting a used stingray in July. Will do conversion in November when I get back to FL.

With the price of used Zs being what they are, I'm surprised people go the incremental route of buying a Stingray, adding a blower, widebody kit, all of that... just buy a Z! Can't be that much more expensive than building it yourself.

Buy 2014 1lt stingray for $38,000. Bought quarters, fenders, hood, bumper cover for $3,000 z06 rims $1,200. I need aperture ( rocker panels )-- $1,200 I need new tires $2,000 I need used rear upper vents, rear spoiler and z06 front grille $750 buy Laguna blue and repaint laguna blue after body parts swap. $2,000. I Do the conversion myself. $48,000 total. No blower or super charger. Never going to race. The z06 and GS is the most insane best looking car ever made. Total bonkers.
