Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Question
I've had these tires about a year and used them for 1 HPDE event and a few autocrosses. I noticed 2 scratches in the tire on the right in the pic. I'm wondering if I should replace the tire or could it still be used on track. Still have about 5/32 of tread so I hate buying a new tire if this ones still good.
Something's going wrong. Tires are expendable. We all have our cheap side but know the answer is two new tires. A delamination or even heavy chunking can wreck bodywork.
I don't see anything in those pics other than a scuff on the left or inner side of the tire in the top picture. There may be a long scratch but it could also be dirt. Unless there is something in that picture that I can't see then I would use them. It isn't like they are going to fail and throw you off the track. They are run flats and they have steel cords. The saying goes, Run them until they start to throw sparks. Once the cords start to show they won't stick as well but you will notice the drop off in grip before the problem gets out of hand.
Is it better to replace both even though just one is damaged?
After six months a tire is getting old for premium Track performance. So if you replace one you have one sticky tire and one hard as rocks. $300 for the tire, Track fee is 250 don't risk the day. Now if was my daily driver, I didn't care about performance, and all I wanted it to do was hold air, I'd drive it till it died. I swap tires from my car, mostly track and weekend driver, to my wife's car and then the utility trailer.

Should have highlighted the problem in the first pics. Thought that was just a tire groove lol. Looks like you're having delam problems of some sort there. I'd get rid of them.
Maybe you should consider going up to R compound tires while you're in the process of changing? Do you have a street and track sets of wheels? Get some Nitto NT01's for the track. You'll easily knock off 2 sec of lap time.

These are the rear tires and I don't think its a delamination problem I think I spun the wheels or locked them up on something sharp. The groove does not go all the way around the tire. Just 2 different spots neither one is more than about a foot long. After I noticed the marks I actually ran them on a half mile shoot out 140mph. No increase in length.
