Isn't this chrome bar just a low cost chrome piece of plastic that snaps in place in the black grille? If so, can't it just be unsnapped and removed? Has anyone just removed it and left the stock grille as is? Thanks.
Most people just plasti dip it black....very easy to do, get some trash bags and cut them and tape off everything except the chrome part....5-6 light coats of plasti dip and then boom problem solved. take's maybe 45 minutes with 4-5 minutes between coats.
Yes, it can be snapped off. It is tricky and has been discussed before. Search forum to find out how to remove it. The grille does not look good without it. Many members painted or covered the chrome piece with Carbon Flash paint or vinyl.
Just cover it up with black electrical tape. It only takes a few minutes and looks great.
+1. I did the same thing. Easy to do, looks great and easily removed. My friend who owns a body shop was surprised when I told him it was electrical tape. He was impressed.
Yes, cheap plastic chrome. I have the z06 grille now, but removed my chrome strips to paint myself on my old grille. Snap up, snap down, all come off easily except the second to last ones. But you can't leave the strips off, looks like hell under those strips.
And with all due respect, electrical tape on a $70k car?
At least spend the $19 and order the carbon flash vinyl
Mine's already black, but I'm still tempted to get the z06 grill (though since the car is a 16 with the camera's in the grill, the z06 grill becomes much more expensive!).

Am I the only C7 owner that actually likes the looks of the chrome. If it came from the factory in black owners would want to have it chrome plated!
I used the carbon fiber tape. It looks fine, but after 11,000 miles, it has a small tear in it - probably from a rock or something that got kicked up from the road.
Having invested in an OEM visible carbon fiber roof, carbon fiber side skirts, carbon fiber splitter and a carbon fiber hood vent was not about to use tape to cover the chrome grill. Bought a real carbon fiber cover for the grill bar. Fit is perfect, it's the exact shape of the chrome strip and thin.
Here is a PDF with vendor and price- they are not a forum vendor. http://netwelding.com/CF_Grille_Bar.pdf
Reel CF Grill Bar Compared to OEM. In my case have a visible CF roof, CF side skirts, CF splitter and CF hood vent so the CF grill bar looked out of place. With that investment in CF wanted a real CF grill bar, which is what I purchased,
There is a guy on the forum (not the one above) that sells a precut tape black cover. I got one and it looked fine. However, after many miles it has three rock chips and the chrome shows through. I ordered black touch up paint from Dr. Color Chip. We'll see.

No, I like it too. The grill is well designed, the chrome strip breaks up the black hole effect. I don't like the Z06 grill at all (looks to industrial).
